I started watching Defiance, because I bought season two and couldn't remember season one.
Having watched the first disc I am sure I've watched it before and yet still can't remember season one.
And yet is seems to have so many great ingredients, including excellent women.

I guess I get to be surprised by things over again. Yaay?

I liked the long pilot episode so I guess I'll see where it's going.

That was proper. Spectacle, compassion, anti empire anti aristo anti capitalism. Nothing not to like.

Meaning I don't have particular thoughts about it.

So that was okay with some good bits
and I think I like the look of the next week bit.

One thing living next to the front door of my flats has made me aware of is there's no instruction so simple that everyone will get it.

I mean for a start a great many people get stuck at the idea of dialing a flat number. They wander up and down looking for flat numbers on the doors. Which is fair, but, those never stay up, so, they just have to dial.

And then it gets to "you have dialled an incorrect number, please try again"

that really needs to be rephrased.

Like, it means "That flat isn't here, try another number"

or "wrong number dude"

but no

person after probably drunk person just tries the same number over again.

and the ones that do not tend to get stuck dialling random shit.

and that's for people that get as far as successfully dialling in the first place.
so many get stuck on "now press enter"
which admittedly means reading the dial in the dark, but still, press the other button this time, how hard can it be.

this rant brought to you by someone very impatient currently trying to get in but cancelling every call when it isn't picked up immediately.

i mean I'm not sure they're leaving it long enough to actually ring.

and they've tried half the numbers in the block now.

so many failure modes for one little device.

and yet, so preferable to the box that had my number at the top, providing literally a decade of being woke up at two in the morning by people who insist they forgot their keys.

(my policy is that just means their night is going to suck, because there's no point having a security door if we just open it for anyone, and because I'm fed up of our building being set on fire.)

And then when it don't work they resort to kicking

which is pretty much why we have a steel plated front door now.

ugh.
