I have been having a tough week on top of my usual lingering depression problems, so this feels like a tough meme.

But I can think of these to start with:

Friday thing that makes me happy is Take Away Day, where I get exactly the food I want, if I order it correctly.
Other Friday thing is, Watch Agents of SHIELD. Granted this often leads to complaining, but it's a better quality of complain than not watching.
Saturday is Doctor Who day. ... I'm not keen on Doctor Who lately, but experience suggests it'll change again eventually. Also there is always more Doctor Who. Even just the ones on my shelves right now, I could watch on Saturdays for a really long time.
Sunday is Sunday Breakfast, often with mum and sibling, where I get good food and do some shoppings.
Sunday lately is also Watch a Movie With Sibling, except when interrupted or they don't want to.
And Bath Day is good too. Because bath.

That's six whole things.

Mondays don't tend to be good. I should invent a good thing to add to Mondays. At the moment they're all Contact People and Order Food. Those aren't happy.

Tuesdays are Cleaner Day, and that moment where my best efforts have only resulted in chaos and mess BUT the cleaner turns that into an actual useful home again, that makes me happy.

Wednesdays are sometimes Norwich Science Fiction Group, which is talking about our favourite things, which is pretty good.

Thursdays are sometimes social group. In theory that can be happy making?
Also on the way there I go to the bookshop sometimes and then I have books, which make happy.

And then it's back to Friday again. Huh, that works pretty well.

That's ten things! I am surprised. That's ten things and many of them happen every week :-)

Things that make me happy:
TV, movies, books, audio plays, fanfic, internet forever.
Things being clean.
Nice smells.
Shiny things.
Soft things.

That's like ten categories too.

Many things make me happy :-)

... also I'm notably less depressed than when the psychologist helped me establish a routine with good things in it, so that part worked.

Since it is after midnight and technically Thursday there are new houses to apply for in Norwich.
So: selecting long term housemates from fiction. They would have their own bedrooms, offices, maybe labs, probably bathrooms, possibly bathrooms they converted to labs. They could add specialised rooms to the floorplan as long as they added all appropriate safety systems too. Physically, the house would have what they needed. And what you needed. You'd just then have to all live together.

Who would you choose?

... obviously if you add an engine this becomes a Spaceship question, since you then have to live together in isolation for potentially a really long time. But if you add an engine there's a tendency to choose people for their crew qualities. A house does not need a pilot or an engineer, but it does need people who won't make you tear your hair out in a week.

Obviously if anyone from fiction brought their usual plots with them they get awkward to live next to really fast, and if they didn't bring their plots with them in many places they'd go crazy from either understimulation or paranoid waiting for the other shoe to drop.

But ignoring that, just as personalities? It's not every person in fiction I'd want to share a kitchen with. Or a TV remote.

Google is educational, though lyrics sites keep turning into popup hell and crashed my browser.
No points for looking it up though.

PS am not as depressed as some of this sounds. Is actually quite bouncy.

I answered all the extra questions, and that got rid of a lot of the initial unsuitable ones. Which makes it less amusing as a meme I guess. I also did that 'what skills do you have' thingy, and my top ten have a bad match only for Technical writer. I'm not very technical, but the skills it thinks I lack are Driving and Being Tactful. (Er, I mean I think I lack those, it thinks they're essential for Technical Writer).

I would have quite liked being an artist, but even with computer art I'm laboriously slow and the end results aren't stellar. I think my visual imagination wandered off a bit. I haven't had anything I've needed to draw for ages now.

I think a lot about sets and lighting and all that mise en scene stuff for TV and film. Careers like that would be nifty. I just have no idea if I'd be any good at them.

Come to think I technically did set design for the mini play we did in class last year. Huh.

I've done very little for money, but I did actually get money for writing once. Factual article for Fortean Times. Which they mangled.

I've only considered being an archivist in the sense that I'd quite like to work with Ianto.

bold ones have read... or to be accurate I think I've read, I'm a bit fuzzy on that
strikethrough ones have read and hated
star for ones I read and really love

... That's actually a fairly small sample of the list.
And half of those I'm not 100% sure about.

The stuff I read most isn't on there. And what's with picking the earliest Brooks or PTerry? They got better as they wrote more. Much better.

Orson Scott Card otoh I stopped reading quite some time ago.

My list: Lois McMaster Bujold, C J Cherryh, the ones that spring to mind immediately. Exploring knock on effects of genetic technology, as well as the divergent cultures resulting from different ways to be human. Ringworld has a bunch of that stuff too, lots of different people.

There was just some documentary I was watching about the history of (British) science fiction. And it had a lot about all the things that really rather bore me - alien invasion, those big implacable eaters that turn up and either triumph or die. Blah.
But it also had as a theme Evolution, which actually is mentioned repeatedly in connection with Dickens and Beloved in class.

Homo Superior mentioned in Midwich Cuckoos.
Mutants that are hated and feared goes back a looooong way.

We are the aliens.

Now that's the good stuff.

Also it had about time travel, which is a great way to go visit human-aliens.

I love Doctor Who, but I think Stargate always had potential for more. Because it has aspects that could be just like Time Travel, in that they can step through their travel machine and end up in a culture just like it was out of a different time. But then those other times can step right back at us. Mix together, collide, have to find ways of reaching an accommodation, living together.

Now that sounds like fun.

It also has some great aliens, the parasitic/symbiotic goa'uld/tok'ra, and the Asgard, and the replicators and all sorts.

When it wanders into being a military invastion blow stuff up show it leaves behind all the stuff that most interests me.
But they frequently hang out in the science fiction places, with the ramifications of technological change and suchlike. And that stuff is fun.

... Yeah, I got from books to Stargate pretty quickly.
I do actually spend more time with TV than your actual print books.
Reading on the internet uses more time than either though.

There's a meme around where you pick 5 random quotes that are supposed to reflect you. That seemed like a lot of thinking, so I just picked 5 quotes.

I like this place, and willingly would waste my time in it.
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), As You Like It

It requires a very unusual mind to undertake the analysis of the obvious.
Alfred North Whitehead (1861 - 1947)

We know what we are, but not what we may be.
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)

It should be our care not so much to live a long life as a satisfactory one.
Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 161.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

Prime Chaos, by Phil Hine

there's a half sentence at the start, so the 5th is one of these 2 depending how you count:

We'd come with stuff which wasn't part of the ritual: who we were, what was going on for us. Sometimes it could be left, sometimes we met at the right point, but when we didn't, things felt weird, false.

also, since figuring 'nearest' is fiddly when I've got two whole bookcases in arms reach, I just reached out without looking and grabbed a book.

Now I'm wanting to fic based on those lines...
