Happy!
This one has lots of Amy. And it has Rory. And that means it has Amy&Rory, who have been friends since forever and have got into all sorts together even before the Doctor, and Amy/Rory with the getting married tomorrow and the kissing and the being really cute, and the bickery Amy and Rory who mix all that together and have to work it out somehow. They have like a little relationship arc. In the background, while running around saving the world a lot. It's excellent :-)
There's also the Doctor, and he's bringing all his baggage again.
And there's Rory&Doctor, who have their own brand of bickery friend history going on, and are also fun.
Also also, there is plot. Proper SF plot with complicated and multiple sides and a conflict and big fighting and all.
Plus, of course, the Dragon. I like dragons. It's not like every single story needs more dragon, but they're nice when they're there.
I like this story.

I like this book a lot. I like the balance in it. I like rather a lot that it alternates between Rory and Amy points of view. I don't think it goes with the Doctor's point of view at all, which I like better because really, can writing show us what's going on in the Doctor's head? Not a large fraction of it at once, it can't. He's alien. I like it when it shows.

This is why more strong characters make stronger stories, you've got more to work with. Add the personal issues and political views of Team TARDIS to the political and personal issues of the characters of the week and you've got a good set of layers to weave with. And this book did that rather well.
