I don't know how the 'actually subscribe to some magazines' experiment is working out, really

Some time last week Analog and Asimov's arrived
but I have not leapt to read them.
I stacked them on the table for later.

I would quite like to read F&SF
but last two months issue didn't arrive, so they said they'd send another copy, which I still eagerly await
and this two months issue won't be late until mid October.

Post from another continent has vagaries.

Three issues isn't enough to be sure of an opinion really, so I'll keep reading
but
I'm more eager to read fanfic.

Quite a lot of that is fantasy or science fiction, even if you only count the AUs,
but since it cares primarily about characters and I can filter by relationships
it's more likely to have a satisfying heart.

But I was looking for new and interesting ideas.

... I think maybe the online only places have newer ideas
... reading some of these makes me feel like I'm reading back issues from dad's day, only they've got fewer excuses.

eh, I'm a grump
I'll read them eventually.

So much competition for attention
so little satisfying stuff once you try it.

Sometimes fantasy or AU fashion bothers me
because so much of fashion actually has to do with the evolving technology of the time
and trade routes, or their interruption, and maybe rationing

You can tell a bunch of story about the available labor for production, maintenance, cleaning, and simple putting on of clothes
just by how you construct your clothes.

Like, obviously their clothes will be different, but why look like that particular bit of history if none of the constraints are the same?

But then I don't know enough about fashion, tech, or trade to cogently construct my argument and it's just frustrating.

Logically Eobard Thawne is an angry man who enjoys killing people and would be terrible to work with
but the thing where he sat down, made, and successfully executed a fifteen year plan
makes him so much more organised than anyone about else in the genre
it's tempting anyway.
