Smartest
I realise it should have been obvious before I looked, but, online IQ tests are a big cheat.
Leaving aside the thing where the questions are poorly designed and there's an argument to be made for several different answers
and the linguistic ones depend on 'common knowledge' common to a very specific area
the tests I just now tried divided up into
'oops you ran out of time / did really poorly, give us money to train you'
and
'you did the test! ... now send us your rl contact details so we can text you your answers'
which is obviously what they get out of having the tests up.
the only one that gave me a number says my IQ is still really high
but I had so many annoyed moments at their question design I feel I could just as well try the 3d6 method.
... which was why I was doing IQ tests again, I saw someone's 'translation' of what the dice rolls mean into IQ scores and it gave me a score above 20, which don't seem right, and indeed everyone was in the thread going 'obvs I like having an IQ 24 but given that's not very possible...'
... it's a big argue in Gurps too, because any game designed to portal fantasy 'you' is just ground zero for so much Argue about whichever stat people are invested in. Which, given we're geeks, is probably IQ. ... do people ever have these translation arguments about Wisdom? ... and the split or combination shows it *can't* just be an expression of IQ score because you roll so many things against them.
I'm fine with giving myself stats that are like top of my class, but the tendency of geek measuring contests to put us on the same scale as Tony Stark... I mean I'm probably not even smartest in my county, I'm pretty sure that scale is not one I can compete on.
... county is pretty big but it's one of the size divisions for figuring out How Many Mages in the GURPS Fantasy book, is why I thought of it.
ANYway: geeks who want to be Smartest can presumably be parted from both money and contact details, hence mensa, though mensa at least alleges you get a social group out of it.
Applying competition over basic stats to actual identity gets heated.
I rolled real good and get to add 2 for being human, I'll take my 17 18 19 and be happy.
