The thing is, it IS scary. It GETS to you, sometimes - the proper way to watch DW is from behind the sofa ;) (But yes, that's a particularly "EEK!"-ish moment. Poor Lynda!)

And seriously, telling myself it's the TARDIS gone all human-shaped - Rose is just a vessel, it could have been ANYONE nearby, it could have been Mickey or Jackie or Random Passer-by-er Number Seven - is just about the only way to get through that scene XD And that kiss that the Batchippers try to use to justify OMG CANON? I choose that as the Doctor thinking, "Hey, closest I'm going to get to snogging the TARDIS! ^_^"
