You remember when there used to be a 'library'?

City College spent the summer remaking the library. Which is why I have a ton of books all summer, because there was no going and getting them, and I, er, panicked. But the college library has not been called a library for some time. And now it seems it is to get even less library like:

As you can see, we are busy getting the Information Store ready for you, and we will be opening our doors for you to see the changes on Monday 12th September.

When we open, you will see that a new Book Zone has been created, putting all of your books in one room, to make them easier to find. Also, this will no longer be a silent area, so you can talk as you browse.

Damn it! That's the last silent area in the whole college! No, wait, I think there's one associated with religion somewhere... do I have to go sit and pretend I'm praying to get humans to shut up? And it's not like the silent area was unpopular! Why, why, why make everywhere full of talking all the time? How the hell am I supposed to concentrate, like, ever again?

Also, and I have to say this, Book Zone??? *facepalm* for humanity. It's a library There is a word for it. Call it by its name! If it scares off some students, good. They can go use the computer labs. Or better yet, have a common room, which is one of the things they use the space for.

I anticipate spending much more time at the UEA.

Of course it is possible they've only moved the books away from the silent study area. It would be nice to have silence and studying still available. I just... I really don't expect it to happen.

Note to self re: recorder box

As well as consistently refusing to record Torchwood (which could be a sign of good taste) my recorder box has now done the unforgivable: It only recorded twenty minutes of Doctor Who. *glares*

It also keeps discovering new channels that are not actually channels, and then messing up the recording settings because they've all got the names of existing channels and it tries to record off the new but not real channels instead.

I should probably go tell the shop I bought it from. It's several of seasons of Doctor Who old, but I think I bought the really long promise on it working. And even if I didn't, the shop can fix things, or sell me a new thing that actually works.

The stupid thing is whenever I don't actually care if it records then it works fine. It's just the things I set up a season record on that keep going wrong.

:-p to it.

DW 6-09 Night Terrors

It felt like it was all made of beginning and then it ended. Odd. I think that's because Read more... )
Nicely done though, making the everyday very DW. ie, scary. Monsters are real, is why we like the imaginary ones better.
Didn't give Amy and Rory much to do. They were brave and panicky, but they didn't say anything specific to Amy or Rory, say on the topics of Read more... ). They were generic companions.
That was pointed out in other people's reviews a lot. But someone also said this ep was moved in the schedule. Maybe it was meant to be Clues and instead turns into a lack of reaction.
I kind of liked it that the solution was Read more... )

I don't think I'll rewatch this one much. If at all. I had to have my sonic screwdriver out for the scary bits. Though when the Doctor turns up and acknowledges that monsters are real it gets much less scary. That way you're not alone with it.

I think I like better when it's robots and spaceships. :eyeroll:
