DW 6-05 Amy and Rory

On reading other people's reviews of how Amy reacts to Rory's actions in this one I found a weird dichotomy where it's split between complete opposite readings. Half the people think that Amy was being jealous and the other half are commenting how refreshing it is that Amy understands Rory giving nurse-hugs and isn't jealous. The people that think Amy is jealous also tend to include rude comments about hypocrisy and Amy kissing tons of people, which isn't what I saw either, so I'm kind of blinky. Are there jealousy goggles the way there are slash goggles? I thought she was being supportive and Rory was just checking in with her and then she got worried about him running into danger without her. I didn't see jealous. Which do you figure?

Here from latest-things (a bunch of people from latest-things showed up on my DW post and I went to see what all the fuss is about, and wow, it is hard not to comment!). I saw Amy as totally acknowledging that caring for people is pretty much Rory's moral purpose in life and it was okay for him to carry on hugging that attractive lady because they are Mature People and have an Understanding. It was one of my favorite moments in the episode! I am not surprised to hear that there are dichotomous interpretations, though. Who always seems to bring the controversy :)

I also saw it this way. I loved how Amy and Rory communicated via expressions and checked in with each other.

Interestingly, Karen Gillan said, in DW Confidential, that Amy's a flirty person and therefore she would be cool with Rory being flirty. Arthur Darvill was more on board with the jealousy theme. It's quite interesting to see what the actors intended/thought they were doing. I think how people respond depends on how they already judge that character. <3 my Ponds.
