I love the misdirection of The First, to instead encounter - a ghost, a haunting! A ghost to fight a ghost.
Loved Giles (even accurately concussed Giles ;-) ) grasping what they needed to do. Go up. Find what part of the spell is still working.
Poor Giles. Always the one who has to know the ugly truths and try to smooth them over for others. It was a very effective creation of yours, that memorial hall for Slayers. Perfect place for Giles to remember Vi's words - "dead is usual".
The Giles and Buffy conversation was perfect! “I did an adequate job as your Watcher.” “You did a great job!” “You died. Twice.” “But the world didn't end. Not even once.” Sweet and funny and sad and true. And then later: "I only ever got the job because everyone in line before me died.” “What a way to be chosen,” Buffy said quietly.
But he really is right about himself. He doesn't want this type of job and therefore he isn't doing the best at it. I'm not sure how happy Wes will be doing it, yet at the same time it does seem a good fit. He brings the real world experience in both the supernatural and business worlds that is needed.
Nice job, be! I look forward to the rest of the season of Ripper.
