Oh wow. Beautifully done. I just read this thanks to a rec from Antennapedia, and I'm glad I did. Of all the Post-Chosen fics I've seen, this handles the aftermath and Giles character in ways I can believe.
Because-- you're right. Giles is Not a middle manager. He's not cut out to be the guy in Charge. To play politics. That's not an aspersion on his character, but come on. He barely functioned as the guy in charge of a small group of teenagers. That's not where his skills lie. And it's always bothered me in other stories that use Giles as the figurehead (while other characters go off and have adventures far away)-- because my view of Giles is of someone wise enough to know his limits.
