I wish I could give a more solid answer but yes, I did like how one aspect of DS9 was that they weren't out exploring like all the other Star Treks. Rather they were a station that remained in one place and had to deal with the universe changing around them instead.
Though the Cardassian/Bajoren war was a barely hidden WWII holocaust reference that's still okay because as the series progresses they handle it well enough. Only a few facepalms here or there towards the end from what I can recall with the Bajoren story arc going a bit '...huh?' in a few spots.
