Ao3 hits and kudos

Someone posted a list of their top ten most read things on Ao3 so I went to look at mine.
... hundreds of people are reading those? Still?
... and yet cumulatively, about half a dozen kudos.

So the thing is, old stories getting hundreds of hits, yaay. (Oldest ever story still only having 2 hits: also yaay. Only my inner librarian insisted on that thing continuing to exist.)

But now there is a kudos feature I have actual mathematical evidence that secretly nobody even likes what they're reading.

... I think I liked it better when I could pretend the lack of comments was all people being shy...

Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of it is fashion, having written pairings nobody is looking for, or having written really long gen about characters nobody particularly wanted to read.

Just... I need no encouragement to think that secretly everything I've ever written is rubbish.

Still, I used to actually write, finish, and post things.
... fanfic is sort of simpler in that respect. I just keep getting original fic bunnies instead now.

A lot of people won't leave kudos even for things they loved--because they feel guilty that they're not leaving a comment. Others download & read, and have to remember to get back & do kudos later. (Hm. Maybe I should start kudosing everything I download, on the assumption that if it was worth save-to-read-later, it's worth at least a thumbs-up note to the author.)
