beccaelizabeth: Tony Stark, working on Iron Man gauntlet, heart and hand shining (Tony brilliant)

Dream bunny

This morning I dreamed LMD!Coulson and de-aged!Tony, youthed back to before he inherited the company.
The dream was weird because Tony looked badly photoshopped in. Like, in the dream I stopped to think that. So it's stuck in my head.

But it was interesting Tony/Phil because both of them were having issues where everyone looked at them and judged them against some other guy that was them only not. They couldn't measure up to themselves. And then when Tony re-aged he still understood, because he'd had that feeling his whole life, of measuring up to Stark.

Coulson had only just found out he was a replacement model, and the Avengers had not been told, Tony just crashed into it because Coulson's team were closest. Teenage Tony and hacktivist Skye totally got into competitions to access the most classified data fastest. It was adorable and deeply worrying at once.

Coulson hadn't told Clint, at first because he thought Clint knew as a level 7 and just didn't want to talk to him, but Clint had lost a level or three because of the whole Loki incident. By the time Coulson figured that out he'd also figured he wasn't the man he used to be, and basically chickened out, sure he couldn't be the guy Clint fell in love with.

So when Tony got back to being the right age and dragged Phil to see Pepper, he also found out why Clint would want to know. But teenage Tony had been shameless and mostly successful, so there was awkward unresolved / with Phil as well. (Teenage Tony and an older man he can prove himself too? Catnip.)

Usually I'd say the solution is threesome, but there's Pepper, so it needs more of a complex diagram. Like, there's Pepper and Tony, and Tony and Phil, and Pepper was friends with Phil, so those three can fit together. But there isn't Clint and Pepper, or Tony and Clint yet, so Clint is sort of stuck out the edge. And he'd be angry and would probably start out with pointing a gun at the fake, because fake is deceptive is usually dangerous. And Tony would protect Phil, even knowing he's an android, because really if there's anyone on Earth who would find that a plus point it's Tony Stark. So maybe he'd call the armour subconsciously or throw it around Phil or something dramatic like that, or maybe he'd just have a big speech about AI rights.

Story feels like it's got all the parts but is being forced into odd shapes. I'll let it shake out a bit and see what I end up with. Possibly I only need the Tony/Phil bits and don't have to follow all the bounce.
