Doctor Who and Torchwood
Tomb of the Cybermen
the Doctor was asleep. which answers a question about Time Lords.
"You probably can't remember your family"
"Oh yes, I can when I want to. And that's the point - I have to really want to. The rest of the time they sleep in my mind and I forget."
Huh.
"Now I know you're mad. I just wanted to make sure."
;-)
gives good snark
... so there's a fight scene where they push against each other, roll around on the floor a bit, swap who was on top, then the cyberman has a whole lot of white goo spurt out.
Of it's chest unit.
which is not dodgy *at all*.
And the black guy doesn't make it to the end of the arc. What a surprise.
So this is the only 2nd Doctor story I've seen.
It's, er, kind of radically slow? TV does that. The past is slower than here.
But "You will be like us" is where the creepy lives.
And there's some nice standard mad logician types.
And some rather improbable looking clothes.
Doesn't suck.
Torchwood tonight, which I rewatched. Didn't like it better second time around.
Yet I watched it. Thanks OCD.
ANYways, a line got my attention this time:
JACK: I have this selective deafness when talking to cowards or murderers
see: Doctor, better off as a coward
you've got to wonder what Jack will think knowing what exactly the Doctor did with the time Jack bought.

Interesting indeed (about the thing about Jack and the Doctor... yeah).
And I like the old serials! Slow and steady and damn good. And hell! After an episode or two, you start forgetting about the cheesy music and bad effects. The Mind Of Evil takes two and a half hours to watch (six episodes). And in that time, you genuinely start to connect with the minor characters o.O (As in, I actually exclaimed, "NO!!" out loud when Barnham got killed.)
It's the only Pertwee serial I've seen, and the only one with Delgado!Master, but it was enough to cement a place for Pertwee as one of my favourite Doctors, and for the Master to be my FAVOURITE BAD GUY EVER. (The Daleks win the FAVOURITE EVIL ALIEN RACE EVER award.)

I kind of like the FX. You have to actively play along, engage your imagination and stuff. Like we're studying in drama about Brecht and defamiliarisation devices. Only possibly less on purpose.
