sleeped again
strange dreams (as per usual)
today, all about time travel.

First there was the one where I landed back in 1975 with pockets full of money and realised that nothing I was carrying was legal tender back then, with the possible exception of the 2p coin, but even they probably have the wrong date on.

Then there was one that wasn't technically time travel, but all back to the past. The cute guy from SG:Atlantis turned up outside my old flat looking for me, so, since I still had the keys, I waltzed in and acted like I still lived there. No, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, specially as this flat is about a billion times nicer.

The really interesting one tho was all Buffyverse. Giles time travelled back to before 1970, years before he even met Ethan the first time around, found him again but as a more or less innocent 16 year old. And this version of Giles is one of the versions that would have shagged the Scoobies, so he finds 16 year old Ethan both pretty and available. In fact, instantly besotted with him, Giles being his first. Thinks it is true love. (Watch me be cynical about teenage love.) So Giles decides to either stay back there with mini-Ethan, or bring him forward to Giles' own time. I argue with him about the nature of time travel, corrupting the timeline, how Ethan proved absolutely necessary to saving the world several times, how we need Giles in the future, and then the important bit - the only things this version of Ethan has going for him is the beauty and the lack of moral ambiguity, and even then there will be considerable reaction to Giles bringing a 16 year old to live with him. mini-Ethan totally lacks everything that kept Giles going back to Ethan, who was more experienced, intelligent, knowledgeable, all kinds of interesting, stretching Giles intellectually and magically, challenging him, being fascinating. Being Ethan. This teenager has none of that, and if he teaches him enough to have it again he'll have 'corrupted' him by his own standards. It will never work out.
But Giles yells that it doesn't matter what was better about the other Ethan, he is dead. The soldiers took him away and now he is dead.
So Giles wants to stay with whatever of him he can still get.
But it doesn't work out that way. Back to the future, but Ethan isn't with us. Much sadness.

But then old-Ethan turns up, because this is a love story and true love conquers all. He isn't dead. But he isn't pretty any more. So all he has going for him is everything except the beauty. Still the moral ambiguity problem too. Starts a big speech about how he should just go, he knows which parts of him Giles really wanted...

Except of course Giles isn't that stupid, and there are hugs and kisses and all the rest, and as much of a chance at happily ever after as G/E ever gets.

Trouble with this one as a plot bunny is this Giles is not my Giles. My Giles would look at a 16 year old boy, even one that looked like mini-Ethan, and at the very most make a note to come back in about ten years and see what he looks like as a real person.
And also as a plot bunny it requires presence of me, to argue with Giles. I mean none of the canon characters I can think of would argue the worth of grown up Ethan. Author would have to stomp in there and throw her weight around. Not of the good.

But dreaming G/E, of the good.
