Real, paper, books
very seldom stop working when you don't use them
have not thus far turned out to be the equivalent of betamax
don't need new equipment to read them on
don't need new software to read them on
and on the whole continue to belong to you without further ado.

My ebooks, on the other hand, may well need replacing, seeing as it's frequently going to be easier to find a tatty paperback of the thing than it is to find an actual functioning readable compatible file of the thing. That doesn't ask for a password I haven't had since the 90s, if then. When I know for a fact I bought them with money.

As for the whole thing with my own writing from back when I used Works instead of Word...
*big freaking sigh*

Why are so many things so tacky and broken by the time they get delivered?
Ordered a shoe rack, unpacked a shoe rack, found almost all the components were broken, filled in the online form to return the shoe rack. Which was also the wrong size because I have no grasp of scale until it's right there in front of me, but that part I'm used to. Just, broken, made of rubbish parts, for why?

Cleaner Day worked though. Still haven't done the vacuum cleaner parts, but the other parts are achieved. Including food delivery, so I have had nice quorn hot dogs and apple lattice pastries.

Quorn took the microwave instructions off of one of my regular eats, so I'm going to have to assume they changed it to not be microwave food somehow. Very frustrating, don't even know if it's still good to eat, but, can't has now.

I'm getting used to the new recliner chair. It's still a bit wobbly ish and leaning back takes continuous work and it's not optimal, but since I haven't got a back up plan yet, i have not returned it.

everything complicated.

I'd go back to bed but I have to wait for the dryer to do the thing.

I started re-reading the Shannara books when the Shannara TV show finished
and I'm like
two chapters in? or more, I can't remember, but not much far in.
To the first one.

Wow this is boring.

I think I realise why they skipped it and started the TV where they did.
Because someone sat down to read it to see if it would adapt interesting and just kind of stalled from boring.

I mean it's not just that thus far there are no women. Some people are orphans or adopted so there's even fewer women than might logically exist. It's that things just happen, blah blah happen, blah, to these two guys who don't appear to have personalities yet. And half the things happen because they are epically stupid. And it's getting so tedious that I'm not scared of the scary things because wow this is tedious.

Since starting it I've read half a dozen other books by the cunning expedient of picking up this book, reading a few pages, getting bored again, and grabbing something else.

So, by most logical criteria, I probably don't need the two or three inches of shelf space this one represents.

But I've owned it since I was 10, so I'm pretty much going to keep it.

Beginnings are the worst though. So many authors, you wonder how they ever got a second book, let alone a shelf full.

... eh, it's about some young bloke who is probably a Chosen One, I'm sure many young males find it compelling.

But from here?
so. tedious.
