Today: Doctor Who

Rewatched 42. Noticed this time written on equipment: Icarus. Am amused.
Watched 'Survival'.
Had it sitting around for a while with a grand plan to watch things in order. Then did some more realistic maths. Cause, you know, looooooong series.
My first thought was *facepalm* at the way it's very much of its era.
But when I get over that
was it always that slashy?
cause that would explain a lot.
I mean mostly Ace/Karra and Doctor/Master.
I mean Karra can call Ace 'sister' all she likes, but she's all 'dangerously attractive', and then there's saving each other, and tragic endings and crying.
Doctor/Master is not exactly news. But... they're facing off, and the Doctor is all "opposites attract", and what *else* did he mean by that?
Some days the anti-slash goggles take more work, you know?
There's some lovely speeches in this one too. The bits about running forever, running into the dark... I actually kind of want to mix that up with Jack and his just goes dark theory. Is a good speech anyways.
And then the Doctor's last speech of the classic series:
"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do."
I always love that speech.
I double love it now that it isn't The End, just a somewhat longer than usual break.
Ace is still my favourite. I mean Martha has many good qualities, but Ace is Ace. You know?
also good: "If we fight like animals, we die like animals"
winning by not fighting = yaays
it's part of that whole 'guy with a screwdriver as national myth-figure' thing that I love about DW
The ending reminded me of Angel, cause, you know, 'work'.
... I think I like DW better.
I mean the body count is way up there either way, but DW has a lot of hopeful mixed in.
... both have dudes with yellow eyes and fangs that have to fight to control themselves before they can do helping people. Huh. Now I have an idea for a really weird xover.
Only bad thing: Why were cheetah people making bad wolf noises?
er, I just meant 'not very varied or convincing', but that turned out amusing.
I actually like the costumes.
... this is part of how I can enjoy classic DW, but may also represent some kind of symptom.
conclusion: would fit modern storytelling tastes better if it was trimmed down to a single 45 minute episode, which might also eliminate the comedy cameo so yaay, but stands up and is almost as good as it was in my head. Yaays.
Also, I like that watch the Doctor was using. Watch on a chain does scanning things. Stylish.
And I've always wanted his umbrella.
