practically all the actors wear glasses
but not on TV

what's with that?

Also, explains all those really intense looks

... *peers across room in hopes the other actor is really out there* ...

I know why specific roles and time periods actors wouldn't wear glasses - but I think the people in charge of deciding these things don't like glasses because the person who is deciding these things thinks that glasses would obscure the eyes.

Most adults I know wear glasses or contacts at least part of the time. TV characters being in general prettier, slimmer, better-made-up, better-dressed, and healthier than most adults, are either wearing contacts or faking without the glasses their actors need.

There's also the matter of not wanting to flash two reflective surfaces in places of expressive eyes at the camera. I'm guessing that actors who may have to wear contacts for hours (and hours and *14-hours days*) while filming, are happy to revert to glasses.
