Battlestar Galactica surprise
Jan. 1st, 2005 01:38 pmam watching the Battlestar Galactica miniseries I got for Christmas
things I like- logic behind the retro look, lots of things going kaboom, Baltar, lots of nifty character stuff going on
things I've had enough of already- cute kids in jeopardy. we get it already! I don't so much mind the kids getting blowed up but the time spent proving they are cute beforehand I can live without.
Some part of my brain seems to think that Starbuck/Apollo is, in some obscure sense, still slash, despite what they did to Starbuck.
my brain is deeply strange.
heeee "You are beyond insane!"
I think I'm in love
So we've seen 3 of 12 Cylon models. Including an actor I've liked for ages - Callum Keith Rennie. Way cool, more work for him.
oh dude- the *ending*! It has been a long time since anything was that much of a surprise.
happy!
I like this series. I'd happily watch it on TV. If my TV was plugged in. And it was on a channel I could get. I don't even know. Unplugged since last Christmas, havent really missed it.
I'm actually more liking this than I am Stargate Atlantis, despite having a lot of like in advance for Atlantis and a lot of reservations in advance for Galactica. I think is because on Atlantis there are so many characters I dont like at all and so few I can even care about a little (the Scot Doctor. That is it. The others could evaporate, and I would shrug.) On Galactica they did interesting character things and set up the world and made things go kaboom and it is all good. And even the bad guys I pretty much like, and certainly care about. There is conflict! With both sides having sort of a point! Absolute evil bores me. I like shows where I can root for the bad guys too... well, at least hope for them to negotiate a solution. Not want them wiped out. Wraith are kind of one dimensional so far -bad things that eat us and sleep a lot - and wiping them out would be of the good. Cylons are interesting and twisty. Religious robots? Interesting.
Also, the pretty really helps. Her in charge on Atlantis (and having watched half the season I can't remember her name- not a good sign) is pretty. The others don't grab me. On Galactica it is easier to list the non-pretty, that being the President and her assistant and Adama and the XO. All the others, many kinds of pretty.
Starbuck especially - how many more of my buttons could she push? Tattoos, combat skills, attitude - I tell you, she ever picks up a sword and I'm going to be melting into a puddle of goo here with total brain shortcircuit.
On the flip side, I can see why people get annoyed. If I was more invested in the original I suspect I'd have Opinions. But I'm not, so is okay.
But this is the 'surprise' part, because I was worried they'd screw it up with the shiny stunts, and I don't think they have.
cool. new thing to watch, yaay!
