If someone has three pages of comments on all the parts of a story already, and they're all along the lines of 'yaay' and 'more', and I have a comment that's... really not, is leaving it going to be any kind of helpful? I mean, I read the story all the way through, I just have some issues with the structure and message and the way it's two stories glued together in ways that screw up both of them. But interesting stories in full sentences. That I read. And I'll read the next part.

To comment or not to comment...

I usually being quiet instead. *sigh*

I actually just got a comment almost exactly like that... and I was thrilled that someone was paying THAT much attention. It made me happier than any of the praise.

If you don't want to do it in public, you could PM them.

Perhaps phrase it as a question rather than a critical comment. That way you can judge if they are receptive to critical feedback before you dive in. So if you have issues with the structure, start by asking why they chose the structure they used.

Unsolicited critical feedback is always a mine field.
