I listened to the 8th Doctor adventure 'Invaders from Mars'.
I didn't hear the fireworks through all the kabooms.
:-)

I got the 8th Doctor collection when it was new and I was listening to them and liking them. Storm Warning had Doctor on a Vortisaur and Sword of Orion almost had enough creepy even giving away the monster reveal in the credits.

Then there was Stones of Venice.
... urgh...
Written by Paul Magrs. I don't know what his other work is like but this one was really rather godawful. I mean the plot bunny was well and good, had a lot of good elements, could have used the characters well. Note the 'could have'. The actual thing spent a hell of a long time with everyone standing around expositioning on their motivation. I got half way through and stalled. Eventually I listened to the second disc... and stalled again. Because that was bad and annoying and, also, everyone did stupid voices and overemoted horribly.

So I nearly didn't get around to listening to the last one.

That would have been a mistake.

Mark Gatiss written & directed. Simon Pegg & Jessica Hynes doing voices. Names that I recognise even without the Doctor Who connection.

It had a proper story where stuff actually happened, they used the setting and atmosphere really well, and such a fun setting - New York the night of the War of the Worlds broadcast. Motivation was revealed through action and, often, who killed who. As it should be.

My only complaint - and it do annoy - was that there were three randomly gay characters, they all end up dead, and one was evil. Sadly in keeping with the era that inspired it, as I understand it anyway, I've not really watched. But felt like an off chord throughout.

I like the 8th Doctor. Paul McGann does too count. Just the movie doesn't. Well, mostly. Bits of it were fun. He was a perfectly good Doctor even then. In audios he has stories to be a good Doctor in.

So now I have ten minutes to actually get to sleep in order to get enough sleep for college tomorrow.
... my time management could be better.

But the audio adventure is fun :-D

(Tiny niggly problem with the MP3 player - there's a slight pause between tracks. I didn't even notice with the audio book, but with the audio adventures they have background music and fades between scenes and complicated stuff like that. If they changed tracks in silence I'd never notice, but there's a lack of silence, so it interrupts every time. Not optimal then.)
