people just knew from looking that some griffins were girls and some were boys, without looking at any particular parts that would reveal such data. Griffins apparently can just shine with girl-ness. And the girl griffins are storytellers, artists, and cooks, where the boy griffins fight wars.
Wow. That's either depressing or hilarious. I'm sure the girl griffins go off and shop, while the boy griffins watch sports on TV... The whole we're-in-Fantasy-Land-but-we-have-Western-gender-roles thing is why it's very hard for me to read fantasy these days.
