I have written up my notes from the Paul Cornell Writer talk. Just that talk. One hour, where PC talks about writing.
3113 words.
Not all of them from the notes I was desperately scribbling at the time, but a very great many are.
woah. no wonder my hand hurt.

Now I find myself reluctant to post them. I wouldn't think twice from a usual Q&A, or a panel, but what was effectively an hour long talk by one person feels a bit different.

I shall have a bath and come back and see what I think then.

Next up I'll be copying up my notes on RS's talk on Theatre and Radio writing, which was immensely helpful in precisely the ways Intro Lit failed to be, and after that the bits from the BBC Writers Room that aren't already on the web page, which is a very thorough and explainy sort of place already.

Then probably the Book thread notes, because most of those are author recs or anti recs.

My plan for Redemption was to Join In, Help Out, and Do Convention Things.
I usually need reminding to Join In. I don't usually Help Out at other events, more like sit in a corner and freak out. Plus I find if I've paid £200 for a gold ticket already I find myself less inclind to do things for the people I've paid. I know it isn't that simple, that's just the attitude I've noticed in me. As for 'Do Convention Things' that would seem obvious but I meant do things that can only be done at conventions. So I stayed out of the video room, which was a great place ten years ago when we were still on tape trees for rare episodes but is not a unique service now. I stayed out of the dealers room partly because I had nowhere to pack stuff if I bought it. And if there were two events and one of them was never going to happen elsewhere, I went to the unique thing.

Thursday night was meal and con pack stuffing, a form of helping out that didn't require speech, interacting with humans, or heavy lifting, and hence I could actually do.

Friday I spent the morning listening to Jubilee, then
2pm New Who versus Old Who
3pm The Well Dressed English Science Fiction Hero
4pm wander hotel vaguely find out where everything is, and isn't. Invisible Ceilidh workshop!
5pm Book thread 1: Classics old and new
6pm Doctor/Master: friends or enemies
7pm remember to eat
8pm Opening ceremony
9pm Pub Quiz
10pm attempted Ceilidh (discovered my ears don't think the music is music), part of 'Could time travel one day be possible' panel
11pm Monsters v Aliens, What's the difference?
12pm SF in-jokes: gray aliens, red shirts etc
and then sleep
... it didn't seem that late when I was there...

Saturday
10am be late because of breakfast being of lose to
Vorkosigan Victorious: The Wonderful World of Bujold
11am Paul Cornell Interviewed by Iain Coleman
12 Should Stephen Stay Dead? (No I didn't know who Stephen was, but went on the offchance it ended up about other characters too)
1pm Has the return of Dr Who helped more children discover SF?
2pm How to send your scripts to the BBC
2.30pm ish compromise on the lack of ability to bilocate, change to other panel, 'Apocalypse Now'
3pm Writing Workshop, Paul Cornell
4pm Food is recommended for humans, and the Zocalo had Stuff going on
5pm Book thread 2: the one where I end up sitting in front of everyone, er, I mean, The Thin Magic Line
6pm to 7.30pm, eat and sleep due to planning to stay up until at least 0200. the eat part worked. I had crisps.
8pm Fancy dress and cabaret
10pm said Disco but was not Disco yet, so I went to Strong Women in Dr Who
11pm Disco with Marwan. I walked in and nobody was dancing, so I got the fun of walking on to empty dance floor even an hour in to the disco.
Marwan and the two people up helping him with the music could do the con dances. Also me. Other people could do dances that were Not The Dance. I discover I cannot do Not The Dance even when the whole rest of the dance floor is and there's no room to have a different version. I discover also I have very fixed opinions about The Dance. *facepalm*
Some time after 0200 there was stopping. And sleeping.

Sunday
sleep and breakfast until late. late in this case means
1100 Writing for theatre and radio talk by Rob Shearman
1200 What happens when you regender a TV series?
1300 Ruler of the Universe hustings (and also paying for Redemption 11. Yes, already.)
1400 Alien defence organisations
1500 Man of Iron script reading (talking of unique experiences...)
1600 Closing ceremony
1700 Dykes to watch out for test
1800 The future of fandom
1900 Why are there no more original SF films and TV shows?
2000 - 0500 Dead Dog Party in Jubilee bar

... yes, I was in the bar between 8pm and 5am. I seem to have been replaced by my alternate universe double. Is more fun thus far.

I read all that and I'm amazed I'm still vaguely functional. That's a whole lot of doings.

I learn from this list that if its a choice between talking Doctor Who with writers and talking vaguely feminist stuff with fangirls I choose fangirls. Interesting.

The other thing about Redemption is I doubt that anyone else went to exactly the same convention. There was so much on the schedule I'm pretty sure everyone else had a different convention. And everyone liked theirs a lot.

So now I'm looking at that list and realising I could calculate the minimum number of times I went up and down stairs that weekend, given that I used the lift about 4 times due to the not turning up and never bothered if I only had to go one floor.
At this point I realise I need to get off the internet and go do useful stuff.
Like laundry. Mine is all waiting for me to throw it in and press the button.
