Two group panels and a party to go.

Paul Copley, Liz May Brice, Ben Loyd-Holmes

LMB: Scared of you all. I blew the Hub up. Sorry!

Q: Stayed since yesterday
BLH: I was handcuffed to something. You know who you are.

Q: What do you think?
LMB: Nice to meet people who really appreciate it.

Q: PC was in QaF. Lead to Torchwood?
PC: Possibly. Don't know. Out the blue, on a plate, offered.
(Had just played 'bewildered people', so he'd done the research.)

Q: What's RTD like to work with? Hands on?
BLH: (Calls audience perverts)
PC: Not on set. Working on scripts. Encouraging messages.
LMB: He came down to when she was standing on the rubble. Always very nice & encouraging. All v respectful. When started didn't know ending. Tried not to hassle him abou that. Lovely to do something where you felt safe and in fantastic hands. Whatever he comes up with is brilliant. Rare in TV.

(BE can only grrr about this quietly. Grrr.)

PC: (mostly you get) Formulaic TV, time and money tight, no luxury of rehearsal. Children of Earth? Time taken, got things right. Brings results.
LMB: Euros in tune with RTD.
PC: Happy he got a grisly death.
LMB: Supposed to have a death but didn't at all.
BLH: Good for season 4. Write in!

Q: Would you like to do season 4.
LMB: Of course, definitely. It's all in the air.

Q: F&SF vs contemp drama
LMB: Accident, seem to do a lot. Not aimed. Done a lot. (Alien vs Predator, Resident Evil, Urban Gothic, Dead Set. Check imdb, is cool.) Everyone likes a bit of a change. Tough but vulnerable. Not stock characters. Happy to do.
PC: Not a great deal of SF. Great to do variety. Who would turn down Torchwood? You can address great moral dilemmas in SF. Kill a child for the sake of the nation, very dark indeed. Gripping, riveting, moral dilemma of decisions for the greater good. Make you think what might happen if it arose.
LMB: Also how we are valued in society.
PC: Brings to front questions and debates without it being [real?]

Q: Costume. Keep?
LMB: Liked it in the end. Not at first. Not fitted. Huge. Jeans, DMs, bulletproof vest, huge. Costume designer kept saying 'trust me' but LMB still worried. But made it fit. Boots from Camden Market. Needed the height to feel more powerful. Leg thing annoyed, fell down when ran. Perfect for her in the end.
Talked about taking bits off near the end, that would soften her, didn't want.
Didn't keep. Not allowed. In case of reshoots.
Could have kept the boots but so sick of them by the end didn't want them any more.
All still there to be put back on if needed.

Q: Guns! Guidance?
LMB: 3 weeks for Resident Evil. Knew her way around guns. Dead Set huge rifle actually shot every time. Had earplugs, couldn't hear other actors. Shots were CGI in CoE. Didn't get training. Helps if you know what to do.

Q: TV for fun?
PC: True Blood. On FX and again on Channel 4. Hooked.
LMB: Mad Men.
PC & LMB: The Wire.
BLH: 24. Family Guy. Movies.

Final panel, I didn't write down much. There were a lot of short answers that were busy making me laugh.

All guests there,

Paul Copley, Kai Owen, Gareth David-Lloyd, Liz May Brice, Ben Loyd Holmes

Q: What would you do if you were invisible
GDL: Go to RTD's house and whisper very quietly in his ear "Bring him back!"
and "Ianto spin off show!"

Q: What storyline would you want on Torchwood?
GDL: Never fucking guess.
???: Porn!
KO: Rhys gays off with John.
GDL: Everyone gays off with John. Your perfect Torchwood.
(I think he was addressing the audience with that 'your'... probably...)
KO: Rhys turns into Captain Jack for an episode.
GDL: You'd have Jack's mind and John play Rhys. Mindswap.

Q: (something about strictly come dancing)
GDL: I always come dancing.

( :eyeroll: )

Q: (Something about... Brian Jones? A character from something else entirely. Asking how much John Barrowman was in that performance.)
GDL: Like a lot of characters I play I think there was a lot of John in him. A Welsh John. Bit more perverse than John.

Q: Tabloid headline
BLH: Stars of Torchwood 4 found in compromising situation with chocolate, killer whale, and an ostrich.
KO: Stop Press - Barrowman Straight!
GDL: Barrowman found in woman!

GDL: Torchwood star given own series after ratings plummet.

That was it, that was the Hub 3 as far as my notebook is concerned. And I don't remember usefully more than my notebook.

The party that night was fun as well, swear words on the wall and tables with no cloth and traffic cones in the middle. Cones with an authentic odor of street to them. Nice.
Only problem with it was it only went to midnight.
I did plenty of dancing and had much fun. My head was working and everything. And then the music stopped. Sulk.

I did finally find aeron_lanart after the party finished, and there was heading to the bar to talk. I went and got my conversation book because my bloody stutter was bloody back again for the weekend. Written conversation started well, but there was a stinky man who wouldn't go away. he tapped my knee to get my attention. Bad! Table tap would be rude enough, but knees is mine. Then he wouldn't take "Fuck off" for an answer from two different people. I edited him out of my world to the extent that was safe, but he very persistent. So the others went and hid and I wandered around looking for new talking. Only then there wasn't elsepersons to talk to that I'd already talked to, and it was small hours of the morning, and the sign said the fire alarm was going off at 0830. So I went to bed.

There's better ends to an evening.

But the party and talking was fun before that.

I haven't booked a ticket for the next Hub convention yet. I think gold tickets don't suit me at all, there's too much prepaid standing in lines, and the party sounds good but involves all my least favourite things at once and a great big headache. I'll probably book a standard ticket instead and maybe 1 or 2 photos. I'm just not fussed. I didn't get a whole lot out of it this year. I mean it was a bit fun, but mostly *shrugs*.

The main problem was Children of Earth and mustering any enthusiasm after that. I liked seeing GDL and KO. That was fun. I'd have gone to see just them.

All in all: Hub cons very photo and autograph focused, not enough party on Sunday, and at Hub 4 they say 'chill out party' which means not a party just a place to sit. Since the dancing parts is my favourite :-( But they do what they say on the tin, so that's fair enough.

My favourite con this year had writers for guests and very few guest panels, lots and lots of talking instead. I want to do something like that but more Torchwood focused. All these photos and signings are just a whole lot of busy I should have ignored and replaced with talking to more humans on more days.

*waves* In reference to the last bit of your post there, me too. I got one autograph this time, and that only because I really felt like I should get *somebody's*. I went swimming during the morning signing sessions instead. So I haven't booked for the next yet either. I'm trying to work out whether it's really worth the ticket, travel and accomodation cost just for the parties, essentially.

It's a pity I didn't catch you earlier in the weekend, but at least I got to see you!

I will be at Hub4, but standard as for this one. I have a need to get Torchwood people to have their photos taken with Spiggy the con/car Spider for some reason. I did a fair number of autos, but not everyone and I didn't do any photoshoots at all (though that will change I think, thanks to Spiggy - I really want him to have his photo taken with Tom Price).

Cons were always expensive things just for the parties even 10 years ago.
