I watched this last night and then went to sleep (and only woke up at 0700. 12 hours sleep? Win!)
I liked it plenty. It was all setup but it did stuff with the time.

I like it that the Doctor is being wrong because of knowing lots. It's interesting comparison to being wrong because of knowing nothing. He expects the same Silurians he has met before, and the whole underground civilisation is a bit of a surprise. And it's the same variety of surprise the audience, or at least those with the Silurian box set, are getting.

I like the Silurian makeup, mostly. Where's the third eye gone? Do only some of them have it?
It vaguely bothers me that their she has mammal human girl body. Reptiles don't tend to have the same bumps. But I suspect it's setup for mothers protecting their children type parallel story and mother willingness to die to protect and basically I don't think Ambrose is going to make it through the next episode any more than I believe the Silurian in the basement will.

... btw, Ambrose? That's a girl name? Rose is a girl name. Ambrose is my dad's name. Well, one of them. It's a family name on the guy side as far as I know. The name meaning sites say it's a boy name too. Do people use it for a girl name now?
Also, it means 'immortal', which on TV pretty much means she's going to die.

The only interesting thought I had was on the Doctor's tendency to treat everyone like free willed individuals with the capacity to understand and make their own choices. He treats humans like that all the time, contrary to the attitude of the rest of his species. And the thing this episode made crystal in my head is that attitude doesn't seem to have a lower age limit. He let the kid run to get his headphones because that's how he treats people. He's also equally bossy to people regardless of age. And there was a bit he said 'good lad' to the old looking bloke, the kid's grandfather, that was a nice moment. Because from where the Doctor's standing, 907 years old, or even where he started out at a few centuries, really, what's the difference? We're all massively young from his perspective. If he's going to treat us all like people then by the standards of his homeworld he must be being *bizarre*, because we're all kids. I had a thought like that after Human Nature / Family of Blood, that the Doctor must feel like he spends all his time being protected by children, but this is the flip side of that, he's allowing children into danger because he treats them all the same as grown ups.

now I'm unsure of all this because it was hours ago and I haven't rewatched. anyway. I'll post.
