time to de-stress

Trouble with reading so much dubious fanfic all in a row- I seem to have reached the point where I can't write about the stuff I like without ranting about the niggly bits. Oversensitised much?
*sigh*

Also, Giles/Ethan is so definitely my OTP. I can tell because every time Giles ends up with someone not-Ethan my main reaction, however well written the story, is 'grrr, arrrgh, hands off!' Which is kind of frustrating because there are many good stories that are not G/E, and I seem to have read all the G/E. *sigh* (*again. realises may be being a drama queen. wanders off to watch stuff or something.*)

Mary Sue of Doom!

Thoughts on high level characters and how tricky it becomes to write for mixed level parties, specially if one of them is Willow. And also stuff about how some plot devices are problematically powerful, even in the hands of NPCs.

Battlestar Galactica

I had a long detailed post with quoteage on the first three episodes. Then it closed. I did not closed it. But, is gone now.

*sigh*

So, I'll just say- yaaay!

This is twisty and layered and psychological and philosophical and full of such *pretty* people. And did I mention twisty? And every single character has their own opinions and attitudes and, you know, *character*. Even the *Cylons* have individual everything.

And the individuals are layered. In some cases to the point of MPD. And it is *fun* to watch. Like psychological horror in space- everyone falling apart and... okay, this is a *specialised* version of fun, but I'm definitely finding it fun.

And the episodes have themes and layers and... yeah, I keep saying layers. This is so rare and so cool. And story arc! Nothing gets dropped, things keep going and getting dealt with and having knock on effects, and this is just. so. cool.

And dark. Definitely dark. All grown up.

I think I love this show.

And I get to meet a couple of these at SG 9 including Jamie Bamber. Coolness! Only one cooler to meet would be Starbuck lady. And then only because, you know, *wow* pretty. Apollo may be the more interesting character. I don't quite have favourites yet. More like a set of favourites :)

Airport! And a fox :(

Today I went to the airport, to look around. See there is this convention in Aberdeen, with ASH and Robin Sachs and the geek trio, and to get there I either have to go on an unfeasibly long train journey, or fly. So I decided I could fly, and my helpful person took me to the airport to see what it is like.

The most worrying thing I saw today was on the way there. There was a fox, and it was squashed. Roadkill fox. And this struck me as a Bad Thing. Not least for the poor fox. But, I never see foxes. It is entirely possible I haven't seen a fox in the flesh ever at all. And now today I see one, and it is all sad and squashed and in the middle of the road. And, me being me, I felt that this might Mean Something. Quite possibly 'foxes should not cross motorways'. But also, Ethan fox! Badness! Sad scary! So, now I worry and try to find a way that this is not a Bad Sign.
