They'll take Mr. Rayne to a secret detention facility in the Nevada desert. I'm *sure* he'll be rehabilitated in no time.
Okay, so, I know nothing about Nevada.
No, not quite true - it has Las Vegas in it, which is an insane fantasy place on top of a lot of not-shiny reality. It has quite a lot of desert. It has a reputation as being full of secret places, on account of all that desert. It... is next to California?
*sigh*
point is, I am about to send Giles there after Ethan, but I have only the fuzziest of ideas where 'there' is.
I guess I need an airport. He has to get there from Bath. How would that work? Would it be different if LA was a demonic wasteland?
And after that he needs... er, a hotel, a DIY store, and some standard urban horror settings. You know, alleys, warehouses, places with lots of doors and rooms and places to hide.
I don't currently have anything planned that needs shiny gambling places.
There's probably places in Nevada that aren't Las Vegas, but I know them not.
So, question - anyone on the friends list know more? Anyone got any helpful suggestions about what questions I need to ask?
Specifics of place are almost irrelevant to what I want to write, yet getting them wrong would make it look all wrong.
Actually, there's probably themey stuff lurking, since we're talking degenerate Ethan and the whole demons and magic to get high history. If I had any sense of the place, I could probably work with that.
I could go watch the Angel episode with Lorne there.
Mostly I should wander off and go make a plot and worry about setting later.
ETA: Wiki has a map of Area 51 and where it is near, with lots of little airplane icons all over the map.
Now I just need to grasp 'scale' and 'travel time'. Never my best things.
I asked Google Maps, but while it can put a little green arrow on Area 51, it cannot figure travel from there to Las Vegas. Possibly because there's no roads and such, just big grey blobby.
The Wiki map has a place called Indian Springs on the edge of the blobby bit. Google Maps reckons from there to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is about 1 hour 11 minutes. Which doesn't mean much for how long it would take to get from secret military bases to, well, anywhere, but I think I can be just generally vague about that. Tonopah is right around the outside of the grey bit on the opposite corner, and that is about 5 hours 36 mins away according to Google Maps. So if they have a day to go places, they could be places like Las Vegas from places like Area 51.
The Wiki for Area 51 says there's daily shuttle services from a private terminal at McCarran International Airport anyways, so very easy to get to that particular secret place is.
The same bit says there is also a bus.
I now have this vision of a daring escape followed by hopping on the bus...
Now I start poking around at airport places. And thinking maybe I could just have him teleport. Teleportation is good. ( Read more... )
