body swap and body/mind
Nov. 23rd, 2006 06:36 pmOkay, I guess I needed sleep... Like, I think that was another three hours, rather unexpectedly.
Nice dream though. Him from Farscape, and a kind of body meld thingy. Like it would be a body swap, except his mind and my body were sort of AWOL, and it turned out his mind was still in there just not talking to me and my body had gone all... floaty mist or something and we'd merged.
The interesting bit was after we split up, he was all veryvery hungry and thirsty and he was all wondering how I couldn't notice, and I said "I'm autistic, you're neurotypical, I couldn't read your signals."
Which isn't how body swap thingies usually work, but you'd think it should be. I mean, aliens with completely different nervous systems and sensory apparatus suddenly switch bodies. You'd think there'd be some translation errors.
Also in the dream I'd done something to his legs as they weren't supposed to do so I was wooshing around in a wheelie chair until somebody could fix it. Then I saw him get like a massage, and I sort of floated out his body and he took over again. I say 'like' a massage because I think your typical massage involves slightly less by way of very pretty young men, and doesn't generally require a guy to change into a kilt. But, it did make his knee work again, though they told him off for not wearing the knee brace thing in the first place.
My dreams, they is strange.
But now I have ideas for bodyswap fics that explore the whole mind/body thing, like what having new neurochemistry would do for a personality. There's few characters with diagnosed differences, but there's many where one is hyper and one is mellow. If they body swap would they both be hyper? Swap speed? Both be mellow? All say different things about what mind/body is.
Oddly I think I've read more genderswap (should be sexswap) stories where the body affects the mind. Lots of weepy premenstrual stuff happening there. But if it is a swap between bodies, there's just people in new bodies, and maybe some funny as they explore physical difference.
