Dear Internets:
Having particular annoyance at the date, am taking day off.
Practical jokes = lose. Always the 'funny' depends on things being 'obviously' impossible, and there's no such thing on either count. Life is always weirder than the stuff you can make up. So where's the funny in 'fooling' people?
is entirely dumb.
I sulk.

also, I'm never any good at figuring them
so: no fair.

Today is a day of plot bunnies.

I think my subconscious thinks it is the big holidays, because it can't take the poetry course seriously. I mean, my reading pile has shrunk not one bit this semester. Including *last* semester's reading. What up with that?

ANYways

I'm getting Highlander plot bunny again. The one where I started with the opening voiceovers and end up with Immortals being outed. It's a bit of a problematic plot bunny because, while I know the climax happens in front of the Forum in Norwich, and there are two Quickenings, one outside the art place at the UEA and one at the railway station, and the thing that hooks Methos to Norwich in the first place is a pub is demolished and an old trunk of his gets unearthed, I do not in fact have a plot that strings all these together. Pub, UEA and railway station string together fine. Unfortunately the Forum does not. Which is annoying, because it's a really gorgeous backdrop.

I need somewhere Methos can get shot and it be really, really, really public. National television public. And so putting him in front of the TV stations seems like a thing.
But then there's supposed to be a big speech, and a podium, and Duncan getting up and doing that "I was born 400 years ago" bit in front of the crowd and on camera. But... I can't get there from here. The railway station Quickening is logically public enough to get Methos arrested, and I know why he gets shot (a Watcher blames him for the death of another Watcher), but... Hmmm... if he'd already been arrested once and suicided out of the cell and got smuggled away by other Immortals, that would work for why a Watcher wants him outed. They don't want it to happen again. Except wouldn't they just want him dead? I don't know, vengeance isn't entirely logical.

There has to be a big speech in public, so Duncan can take center stage and do the speech.

The irritating thing is it's possible I've fixed this once already but the fix doesn't stay in my head. However if it doesn't stay it's usually because it doesn't flow. So.

I want to go back to writing RFJ because I've a ton of plots and they're really cool. Except Torchwood seems to own me at the moment to the point I'm barely reading Buffyverse fic. A couple of things in the vague hope of reading more Ethan, but nothing outside Ethan fic. I don't know if I've moved on or if it's just that new-canon thing and it'll wear off a bit and I'll watch Buffy again and need to write.

Need-to-write is the thing. I'm not feeling a need there. I'm not living in the Buffyverse while trying to fall asleep. I'm with the Doctor or Captain Jack. And while I still don't want to write DW fanfic, TW is a whole other thing, and I have a bunch of ideas.

TW fic includes Triage, which I really need to finish, and then Monday, which is a little idea I rather like, and after that a couple of epic twisty Jack/Ianto things, the one with the alien telepathy making them see flashbacks together and the other one with Ianto's family and the old school DW tie in. Also intermittently want to write the one with the wheelchair. Actually, want to write that for both TW and DW, but in DW I'd have much more of a task trying to explain why the Doctor doesn't just woosh to a bit of the future with nanogenes and have them fix everything. I could try a more mental disability, but then I'm kind of writing me-as-companion fic, and, er, let's not. Even if I can think of things that would be interesting.
Besides, I tend to get fed up and run back to more metaphorical ways of saying the same things, like with writing aliens in the first place. Oops wrong planet.

There's also my original fic. The one with the medecine. Actually last night's DW kind of made me feel more able to tackle that one, because god knows I can be as medical as they were. Bit of research on the net, lots of handwaving, no worries.
However, holding DW up as a standard of realism is just... not worky.

But I'm getting a feeling that if I chuck out almost all the stuff I thought up first time I had this plot bunny and just start from the magic-mechanics I decided then I've got a whole plot set out in logical order where it all unfolds from a single premise. Which would be tidy, nifty, and possible. I just keep on thinking "yeah, but", which seems like a problem, *but* if I consider it as a mystery plot it is in fact another twist. Which would be nifty-cool. I could work with that.

It starts with the idea that there are lots of dimensions set out in levels, some higher or lower than the plane the story starts out in. Higher energy in higher levels, lower energy in lower levels. Energy kind of falls through gaps, like it was water leaking. The gaps are in living beings, including people. If people get a hole in them they leak their life away and die, making it a medical mystery. And there are some people - the winged guys, the messengers - who know how to get between levels.

There was also a bit about a cup that was used to heal. I don't know, that might not quite fit in with the 'living beings' bit above. But it might, if it turned out to be a red herring or a prop or something. I might have to think about that a bit more.

But I think with just those facts I can make a whole plot with running around between different planes and saving a bunch of lives. Fantasy adventure with no killing people in it, just lots of healing.

Hmmm... fruit juice is kind of living, if it's fresh, yesno?
and wine is made by adding more living stuff to fruit juice... sort of...
... bit of a stretch though ...
