DVD WTF?

So the Blood Ties DVDs are being *weird*. The picture is 16:9 ... in a little box in the middle of a 4:3 window. So, okay, they're being cheap. This is what zoom is for. So I get it set up so it fills the screen... only now I'm watching the episode with the art gallery, and it's being even weirder. The picture got even smaller for the opening credits, and now it's like it keeps moving left and right across the screen so it doesn't all fit in and there's these big black bars down one edge.
WTF?

Blah.

Also, the previous episode did a flashback to when Henry was human... only someone needs to check their costume history, or just plain history, cause the clothes were entirely the wrong century. This isn't trivial when they're the only date indicator. Is stupid.

I'm liking all the characters better now. But I still don't know what it's about. There's no journey, tension, big moral choices. Just a bunch of stuff trying to kill people. And some vamp angst. It's pretty generic. Emphasis pretty, yeah, but.

You know when you're trying to concentrate on the story but someone is just too pretty?

Have watched season finale, which turns out to be series finale cause they're not making any more.

... I think they lost all their points on the dismount.

Okay, for a start, when someone gets possessed and they want to show they're eeeevul now, you know what's not a good way to do that? Have them go do same sex kissing. I mean, yeah, there's an element of sexual assault which was indeed evil, but, oddly, I do not believe same sex kissing is evil. In a series that has already retconned one of the protagonists straight, the message seems clear, and just a bit sickening.

So, okay, lets ignore that part and move on to more general story based issues. ( Read more... )

But the biggie is Vicki. So like I said, the focus has been on her focus on work, with male sidekicks. Now because she's not sexing them and won't follow them away from her work they both leave and won't help with her work. And she's left standing there crying. That's the last shot of the series about this strong woman.

If they put it in bold print they couldn't say 'career women be stuck with being lonely' any bigger.

Now the whole thing tastes bad.
