Aug. 18th, 2008 11:15 pmThings that arrived in the post today: Fortean Times, application forms for university funding, Shadows Return.
Things that arrived in email today: Dispatch note for Shadows Return.
Now that's quick.
Not so quick - goth jewelry ordered a week ago. How long is long with shiny things in the post? I ordered from a new place to save money and begin to suspect it no working.
Also less than helpful - Tesco delivers... if you order a week in advance and want it to arrive late at night.
Also they have no microwave pasta. I admit to a certain degree of panic there. They don't just have out of stock notes on it even, it's just not there on the lists any more. Since I eat it pretty much every day this could be a Thing. I can only do microwave stuff. There's bazillions of packets of regular pasta but I can't use those.
I shall have to go shop somewhere that has the right pasta. Morrisons did. I got some the other day.
One of the less noticeable aspects of disability - having to shop around when the perfectly useful thing gets replaced with the new and improved not useable thing. :eyeroll:
I slept between 2pm and 11pm today. Tomorrow I plan to stay awake until 4pm. By Thursday I'll be all diurnal again. The plan was to spend the day in London. But my employee says she has another job and can we do it on Saturday. I think Saturday is a bank holiday weekend? And also my birthday. For both reasons I had not planned to spend it in London with my employee.
Interesting things to do keep running away as well. I wanted to go see butterflies at the natural history museum, because I saw butterflies for my birthday last year, but mum hasn't been interested and I didn't want to go on my own because its a birthday sort of thing. Eh. No more butterflies now. But I can go to a bunch of museums.
I need to get a Doing Things tattoo. I have a Watcher tattoo, like in my icon. Left wrist on the inside. Gone a bit fuzzy. Always had some gaps in it. I suspect Dereham isn't the bestest place to get a tattoo. I also strongly suspect I messed up the aftercare somewhere. They didn't give me any instructions and I guessed stuff. And it hurt for weeks and peeled off in Y shapes and left a blue print on my duvet one time when I sleeped. It was not a great experience so my Grand Plans for getting more ink sort of... didn't. I want to get a Seal of Rassillon but I only have the t-shirt. But lately I've been thinking having a Watch side but not a Do side be less useful. I was trying to think of a Do symbol. Thinking strong things, like swords and sticks and suchlike. Quill pen is a good one. I planned to get that on my finger until I thought about having fuzzy blob of worn out finger tattoo in the future. But now I'm thinking, butterfly. Because butterflies do only small things, but they have big effects. Like a breath is a very small thing, but with the right words on it it can change the world.
And, also? Pretty.
And happy. They're made of joy. That's how they stay up.
*nods*
So then I'd have to decide which butterfly and where (on the right arm for Doing Things?) and where to get it done. Not the same place in Dereham that has had the same pictures in the window for as long as I can remember. They're very pretty pictures but if they're doing art in there surely there should be new ones? So it might have been the only place I could physically get to when I got the wrist tat done, but I go somewhere next time that has good Name.
I'm reading the Dresden Files books at the moment cause I bought a new one and decided to start at the beginning. They're good, but even with strong women in the book, the strong pov of Harry gets a bit wearying. He's several useful to the story kinds of annoying. I want to read about Women Getting Things Done. And talking to each other sometimes. The thing about having a first person narrator that's a guy is it's very difficult to pass that women-talking-to-women test. There was a bit in the last book when someone talks to their mother and sister, but it was about their ex husband, which I don't think passes. Also it's a traditional private detective story, meaning a lot of women turn up, look sexy, and turn out to be evil. Oddly though men who turn up and look sexy turn out to be his brother. Since there's a bunch of books between 'Harry notices hot guy' and 'Harry learns they're brothers', that turned into several years of slashing siblings on accident. Eeew. Also? Same name as my dad. If I had a computer file I'd find/replace him to be called something else, cause that's just weird.
I need to do something more interesting. Like go up to the university library or something. Or, possibly, read some of the dozen or so reading list books I have stacked up in arms reach. Do big thinking, feel less bored.
