My plan for the day involved waking up, packing up the DVD player, and taking it to the shop.
If I want to do that I have three quarters of an hour. and it's raining.
The 'wake up' phase had mass fail. I went to bed at... well my last message board post was 1905 and I didn't LJ after that, so 2000 at the latest. Woke up at 0500 for a quick patrol and email check. Then woke up again at 1345. I'm kind of scared to run the maths on that one. I don't think I hit twenty hours but I zoomed past 12.

In there somewhere my main computer decided to auto update. So I've spent the whole time between there and here trying to get the antivirus to work again, the email to work, Read more... )

Oh, also, I don't think I've missed emails, but if I had how would I know?
Haven't heard from beta, which is probably because beta hasn't betaed.
Mostly people LJ comment though.

I have so many mail folders and so little new mail. Everything lives on LJ.

There was an offer for a box set from the Big Finish website, so I have a whole box full of 8th Doctor audio adventures. These are with Charley Pollard, Edwardian Adventuress. There was crossdressing. Already I like her.

... er, yes, I am predictable...

Along the way I realise I have a really big gap in my mental timeline, cause in my head it goes 'WWI WWII' and in actual history there were in fact years.

So, adventure. With an airship that we know is going to go boom, which has that lovely ticking clock feeling. And with cliffhangers! It's in parts, so they finish on an oh no and keep going. 4 parts. I miss cliffhangers. I do like the pace in the new series too, but it's like meals, you don't always want the same one.

If you want a demonstration of why the Doctor really really needs a companion, listen to the start of this adventure. He hasn't got one, so he's explaining everything to himself. It's clunky and rather *facepalm*, even if he does notice that himself.

The Doctor is doctor-y, which is good because this is 8 and on TV he didn't get much chance to be doctor-y at all. He was the only good bit of the TV movie, but even so. So, anyway, I like him in the later audios, and I like him in this one, even though it felt... less practiced, less polished, trying harder. Maybe.

Charley I'll have to wait and see. She's compassionate, empathetic, plucky, setting out for adventure, and invites herself along. So, basic companion functions there.

I liked the descriptions. Giving visuals in an audio takes a bit of work, but I liked them. Big airship = fun.

Vortisaurs, also fun.

So, anyways, happy I bought this one, and now I have a whole bunch more to listen to.

My attention is always a bit divided on these though. I'm never more productive than when I've put an audio on. While listening to Storm Warning I had some food, did the laundry, put a hi vis reflective sticker on the arm of my coat (rather badly, but it didn't work like the instructions said, and also I managed to get it turned around 90 degrees so it's fiercely menacing my shoulder rather than staring out behind me), sorted out the paperwork for my employee (which tore the folder last time I picked it up, so now it's all in the big box o admin along with everything else ever), and sorted through the plastic tray I used as an inbox in, judging by the contents, 2005. Oh, and did some throwing away. So that represents my entire to-do list aside from Run Dishwasher, which needs to wait for a couple more meals even if I have run out of forks, and Hang Up Laundry, which shall wait until I can be bothered to stand up. Which could be some time.

I'd probably get a different listening experience if I wasn't skimming paperwork for content keywords at the same time, but the fact the adventure was plenty tense enough anyway speaks well for it, I reckon.

... when trying to keep a monster secret so you can have mystery and suspense and stuff, it helps if you don't list them by name in the credits. Especially in an audio where looking away don't help.

Sword of Orion is cool, but they wasted almost a whole episode of suspense right there.

I've run out of things to fiddle with and do though. Sitting still and listening makes me twitchy.

Sword of Orion is a good one.

Reasons to like the multi part format: More time for secrets, surprises and reversals. Time for people to turn out to be not what you thought several times over. Got to love that.

I listen to it again another time though cause, er, I apparently can't concentrate on audio for that long in a row. So I had to listen to the end bit twice cause I got distracted. But that's not the story's fault, that was a plenty good ending.
