I read the last DW book already. I always try and make them last, but noooo.
It has the Doctor, and no companion. So 'alone' is a big theme. And then there's that constant-companion-death bit. Lots of running, some clever and fiendish traps, a mystifying alien that turns out understandable by the end. Proper plot bits.
The Eyeless themselves might be a bit interesting. There's some ideas going on in there.
But the bit I actually like is right at the end. The book sets it up. There's a quote of an exchange between the Doctor and Rose, but from different characters, and natural to that scene. and it twists the original into a new context it fits just as well, and it's very very good there.

Tell you what though, reading a Doctor-alone story makes me really, really miss his companions. All of them. And also realise that I'm so over the whole 'lonely god, angst angst woe, I'm so powerful and alone and did I mention alone and powerful and miserable? that.' I mean, yes, he has plenty of reasons, but he's losing notes. Where's the mercurial, mischevious, intermittently happy? Okay, he makes jokes, usually of the bad wordplay variety, but... bah. I just like him better bouncing around being all 'brilliant!' at the universe than stomping around stuck on that one aspect. He'd be no fun stuck on the other aspect either mind, but.

I want Gallifrey back. Give him some background and something to rebel against. At the moment the only thing stopping him is him, which makes for the angst-woe-introspection a lot.

And this book takes that about as far as I can see it going.

Done now.
