Dratted thing
Jul. 22nd, 2009 02:22 amJust had my third moment of 'hang on, that's the wrong plot'.
Suspect this script is never going to get writ.
This time at least there's the same characters in roughly the same setting.
I had a very good plot in between times where they're stuck on a prison ship with insufficient drugs to save everyone, but then I realised about a dozen ways it didn't work, plus to make it much dramatic I'd have to invent a crowd to have a riot and a crew to have a different side of a riot and all sorts I didn't want. So I'll store that idea for later. It's more fun when you know all the people already and then find out they can't all survive.
... for a definition of 'fun' that would have me swearing at the writers were I a fan...
So now I re-read the start of this story I thought I was writing and realised actually I'm setting up a whole bunch of things that weren't in that plot. I have decided this is an example of me being Secretly Clever. So now I have to figure out what story I'm *actually* writing.
Bloody thing. I wrote a whole Torchwood thing in a weekend, why is this bloody thing taking all summer?
The more I write, the less convinced I am I have anything *to* write.
And then I remember 'they're doing it wrong' and have another go.
... It's possible I'd actually rather be finding other people to have a go. I could read tons of stuff and choose the stories with lots of women and all that other stuff I like.
... Given that I've spent thirty years thinking I'm a writer it's a bit depressing to be stuck trying to think of an alternative.
*headdesk*
Right. Writing. More.
