Just had my third moment of 'hang on, that's the wrong plot'.
Suspect this script is never going to get writ.

This time at least there's the same characters in roughly the same setting.

I had a very good plot in between times where they're stuck on a prison ship with insufficient drugs to save everyone, but then I realised about a dozen ways it didn't work, plus to make it much dramatic I'd have to invent a crowd to have a riot and a crew to have a different side of a riot and all sorts I didn't want. So I'll store that idea for later. It's more fun when you know all the people already and then find out they can't all survive.
... for a definition of 'fun' that would have me swearing at the writers were I a fan...

So now I re-read the start of this story I thought I was writing and realised actually I'm setting up a whole bunch of things that weren't in that plot. I have decided this is an example of me being Secretly Clever. So now I have to figure out what story I'm *actually* writing.

Bloody thing. I wrote a whole Torchwood thing in a weekend, why is this bloody thing taking all summer?

The more I write, the less convinced I am I have anything *to* write.

And then I remember 'they're doing it wrong' and have another go.

... It's possible I'd actually rather be finding other people to have a go. I could read tons of stuff and choose the stories with lots of women and all that other stuff I like.
... Given that I've spent thirty years thinking I'm a writer it's a bit depressing to be stuck trying to think of an alternative.

*headdesk*

Right. Writing. More.

I haven't read the post but someone on torch_wood had some thoughts about
why fans didn't love Gwen as much as we were supposed to and went head over heels for Ianto.

My answer:
Show not tell.

We were told Gwen was all caring and about connecting with people and treating them as people even when weird alien stuff happened to them... and then shown her crunching things and freezing in the face of danger and being a bit useless. Gwen treated people she was shagging badly, even when they were nothing but supportive of her. And then she kept on talking like she had the high ground and everyone else was cruel and a bit useless.

We were shown that Ianto would do anything for people he cares about, would die for someone he cares about even when they've treated him badly, would treat them as people even when they were mostly weird alien stuff... and that he was *good* at it, got things done, helped, only to have it all go horribly wrong because the world was darker than he thought. Ianto treated people he was shagging well, even when they, you know, killed him. And then he quietly got on with his job, with a few moments of pointing out genuine insensitivity.

One of these characters we were told told told we should see as the human side of Torchwood.

The other one lived it. And lived with the cost. And reached out again.

I have been awake quite a long time.
My plan is to be awake all day as well as all night. And then be awake all day next day. I hear this is popular with humans.

I am watching Groundhog Day. Everyone knows Groundhog Day as a story shape, but I couldn't remember if I seen it.

Currently he is commiting suicide in a whole bunch of different ways.

So, you know, cheerful funny movie then.

I still need to think of things to do. Which involve talking to people and leaving the house and stuff.

Saturday is Norwich Pride. So that's a thing to do. I has rainbows.

My brain has stopped yet I am not asleep. It's interesting.
