I'm fine with people taking a Watsonian approach to the stories. Works for fanfic, works for fun. But when they're trying to be serious lit crit talking about Doyle's works it do get amusing when they slip up and talk as if Holmes has his own opinions.
I know that's a natural way to type it, and a way of distinguishing between character and writer held opinions, it's just funny too.
... even if I have the exact same problem a lot. And a slight frustration since the Holmes in my head has changed to looking like Robert Downey Jr after many years as Jeremy Brett. It's like regeneration, only he doesn't know he did it, plus he's still in that slightly loopy phase from being so new.
My head is a weird, weird place.
On the plus side, I've narrowed down what I want to do the presentation about, and found some appropriate secondary reading and stuff. Also found some women doing police work in a story, searching women and also following them undercover. Which is much more interesting than all them heiresses, even if they never get names or meetings or screen time.
