Temeraire

Over the last two days I read two more Temeraire books, Throne of Jade and Black Powder War.

I really like all the stuff to do with dragons. I feel like the other dragon stories I read, with the one dragon plus the one rider flying around looking cool, are the newbie stories, the ones where someone got as far as thinking "Dragons - cool!" and then made up these dragons and stopped. But these are the fandom dragons, the ones from when they've been kicking around the meta for a while, where the source dragons are pretty thoroughly known and people have been asking "Yeah, but..." a lot. I don't know if this is how these dragons got this way. It might be just the one person saying "Yeah, but", which would be a lot of thinking. I'm saying it this way because this way there's so much thought gone into things it makes the earlier stories look all sketch. It's brilliant.

Archiving old fandoms

I like Archive Of Our Own. My 50 little stories are on there and people appear to be reading them! How weird is that? Though I think the one with 33 hits is actually someone having it open in a tab because it gets another hit every day regular as clockwork which seems unlikely elsewise.
ANYway

My stories are on there, and people read them.

And I can go looking for other people's stories.

If I search on 'Ethan Rayne' I get 134 stories.

I once tried to hunt the internets for any and all Ethan Rayne fic. I only got up to 169 stories. And it took a very much long time.

There's still the thing where if you're at an Ethan archive you know they're all *about* Ethan whereas if you're on an Ethan tag you only know they're *featuring* Ethan, but *shrugs*, near enough to be going on with. Also, there no longer is an Ethan archive, unless it is hiding real well.

I don't see stories that I remember, so there's still Ethan fic, much of it once on the archive, that isn't on AO3. So now I want to go find all that fic and ask for it pretty please to be on the archive. Er, if I can find the fic why go on the archive? Because some of it I can only find on Wayback already...

And Richie fic? That's way worse off. Richie/Methos is not a searchable tag yet. As far as I know I'm the only one using it. We used to have an archive! It was shiny! There was smut! And now? Teeny tiny one tag place. Archive only Wayback, bits missing. Mailing lists missing.

So I feel like going around telling everyone who used to write for Richie to go put things on the new archive... but if I knew how to go around telling them then I wouldn't need so much to tell them.

So I guess I can tell all everyone and hope it gets there?

DEAR INTERNETS: PLEASE TO ARCHIVE YOUR FIC IN THIS SHINY PLACE THAT PROBABLY WONT DISAPPEAR!
