we are studying The Talented Mr Ripley.
half the class just had to construct the argument '50s America: a Really Nice Place' and the other half had to argue against.
Guess which side had the easier time?
Teach had to go with 'okay, but, if we're just talking about white middle class males' and then the 'against' team said 'communism scare + homosexuality' and, well, *splat*.
Teach keeps saying about women having been in the work force and being sent back to their homes. I keep on wanting to say 'white middle class' in the middle of her sentences.
Also, looking stuff up on one page of Wiki made all of us have more knowings. We weren't around then, and we don't know much about the USA. One of the youngers didn't know the Korean war does not equal the Vietnam war.
oh, also? We watched the film "Duck and Cover". With the turtle. and the songs. And the advice to hide under a newspaper when the nukes go off.
Dude, how did humans survive this far???
