BFA: Deimos

I was bored. I tried to figure out why, because the plot had some good stuff, and I usually like the Ice Warrior voices and the Professor guy and there were some good archaeology jokes and steadily increasing stakes and basically all the components of a good story. I think it comes down to: I don't like the new girl. At all. In fact I may actively dislike her. She's sort of an extended joke, and I didn't find it funny the first time. So I was bored because she's boring. The Doctor isn't supposed to be boring but he needs someone to spark off so it all felt flat to me because I got bored with all the replies.

If this is all a cunning plan to make the last twist of the story even more interesting it worked, for that was indeed the most interesting bit.

But mostly I was bored.

This is why I shouldn't read poems

Am re reading class notes.

"Poem goes on to say if he got turned into a bird he'd sing and she'd kiss him. (But also he'd be a bird. Which would suck. He hasn't noticed that.)"

... somehow I suspect this was not the important point of the poem...

I Read All the Things

well, all the things I'd planned to read before tomorrow
as is the way with reading, that leads to a list of more things I'd like to read.

I feel sort of kind of vaguely prepared to spend two hours writing about Duck's Thresher's Labour with bits of Pope's Pastorals and Collier's Woman's Labour tied in. If I had been better prepared I could write with equal focus on two passages, but that didn't happen, and luckily it doesn't have to. I can write about pastoral vs anti-pastoral, or something more general about genre, or possibly something about gender, depending which bits we're given.

I have forgotten all the clever poetry words and everything off the vocab list we got given at the start of the semester, so I will again be heading for a note about how my language is too informal. But honestly I don't want to get trained up to use words you need a degree to understand, I have hopes of writing for an audience of more than one sometime.

Now I have 10.5 hours to get 8 hours sleep.
