every time I look at LJ's header graphic this month I feel like yelling at them that winter is not global and really a lot of the world has no snow right now.

Seems like the internet shouldn't be so damn local, you know?

Because my brain cannot stay on target for the life of me

I've been wondering about stargates and relativity. Not specifically the Stargate franchise gates, but instant travel worldgates. Is worldgate generic? Stargate has to be tm every which way by now. ANYway: big gate where you walk through it and instantly go from one planet to another.

I was thinking, if you walk across a room, all of you is going at the same speed, and the planet you're standing on is going at whatever speed it's going in whatever direction it's going but you don't feel it because you're going along with it. But if you're walking across a galaxy then you have two planets going at different speeds in different directions that only make any sense at all if you only measure them relative to each other in this one calculation. So you have to assume the worldgate can figure out where it's aiming even with all this movement going on. And since you arrive out the other side at walking speed then it don't matter if the planets are heading towards each other really fast, you don't keep any of that when you go through the gate. (no subject)

I am going to fail this Satire essay because I don't know anything about anything outside the 18th century. I was fine in the mornings for the 18th century stuff, I started out reading the 18th century stuff and eventually got through it, but all my notes are full of wanting to go to sleep and my head is empty of anything resembling thought for anything after that. And even if I get an extension I don't see how that would fix anything cause it takes longer than that to start over from nothing. fail fail fail.



PS: my essay has enough words, and not too many words. it is now about both texts, just barely. The conclusion is all of two sentences but it does exist. and it probably answers the question, if and only if I've understood the question. It is not an automatic total fail, it will likely pass the unit. I just don't see how I'm going to improve it before Monday, so I rather suspect it's not in my previous grade range.

PPS: I know nobody cares, but I already phoned mum to wail and she told me funny stories about her cats for an hour and I don't feel that's a swap I can do twice in a day.
