Today I dreamed that Derek from Terminator had successfully changed the future, and then fallen apart. So he was very very drunk, and the kind of drunk that steals unattended beer or pours some in his own glass as he goes along. Pathetic, and drunk.

And in the dream I volunteered to love him and hug him and keep him until he was alllll better.
There was beer smelling drunk man.
Also kissing.

I'm so creeped out now I'm awake.
Pretty is not worth that.

Also, there is some form filling I have to do or things go (financially) horribly wrong.
The prospect of things go horribly wrong is leaving it hard to breathe, much less go Outside and get the bits of paper I need.
Reality. :-p

Right. Permission to be crazy until 2pm. After that, things to do.

I've been listening to this on audio all day. The ending is creepy and doesn't seem to know it. I mean, "You can't want wrong things when you're dead" is like saying "Free will, you no has it" and bad. And then they fix bullying by attacking bullies with swords and making them terrified, and there is much lulz. Er, in my experience, bullies know that there are bigger and scarier and very bad things that can happen to you, swords are not a solution to the mindset. Well, some bullies just seem to have no empathy, but others just think this is the way the world works, you has to be the scary one. Scaring them would make that worse. And then Aslan fixes it so the Headmistress is caught 'behaving like a lunatic' ie accurately reporting what happened to her. But she gets fired for it and the school is happy! Happy Ending!
... creepy creepy ending.

I know the bit with the Marsh Wiggle saying Narnia is a better dream and he's on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan is inspiring and all, but, er, even if there is an Aslan, sign me up for free will and accuracy and empathy and all that stuff, not scaring people, not hitting them with swords (just the flat, they're only children), and not getting people fired for telling the truth. Attractive is not necessarily good.

Dude has his 'customers' confused with his 'product'. Which, coming from Facebook, I can see how that can happen.

On ad supported sites the site owner gets paid by advertisers to provide them with eyeballs. People posting to ad supported sites are the product the site owner is selling.

Fandom does not, on the whole, want to be product.

Or to put it another way, he's confusing 'customers' and 'employees'. He looked at the archive and thought "wow, all these people make things for the site owner!" And dude, no. The site owner makes an archive for all those customers.

Finally, how much money does he think there is around here anyway, and why does he think nobody living here since the birth of the internet knows how to get it? He fails to know the demographics of his customers. Read more... )

And all that is only translating to ill fitting terms from the discourse of capitalism. Fandom is not a capitalist economy. Our value set is different from the ground up. We do not consider Profit a good thing, a desirable thing, or a goal; quite the contrary. We're all about the gifts. To be a Big Name here is to be one that gives the most, or gives the highest quality, or gives the most useful, or gives in a really highly networked way to the most people. Giving feedback and comments is good giving. Giving attention. If all the kudos are about giving and he turns up trying to get and does not understand why he's in the fandom equivalent of debt up to his eyeballs... that's a depth of misunderstanding that requires a lot of translation.

He also seems to be confused about this 'profit' we are objecting to. He believes that him getting enough money to live on is not profit. This is odd. I think the thing that people are objecting to is him getting. Read more... ) The scale isn't the problem, the inequality is the problem.
