The Silver Chair
Jul. 4th, 2011 03:46 pmI've been listening to this on audio all day. The ending is creepy and doesn't seem to know it. I mean, "You can't want wrong things when you're dead" is like saying "Free will, you no has it" and bad. And then they fix bullying by attacking bullies with swords and making them terrified, and there is much lulz. Er, in my experience, bullies know that there are bigger and scarier and very bad things that can happen to you, swords are not a solution to the mindset. Well, some bullies just seem to have no empathy, but others just think this is the way the world works, you has to be the scary one. Scaring them would make that worse. And then Aslan fixes it so the Headmistress is caught 'behaving like a lunatic' ie accurately reporting what happened to her. But she gets fired for it and the school is happy! Happy Ending!
... creepy creepy ending.
I know the bit with the Marsh Wiggle saying Narnia is a better dream and he's on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan is inspiring and all, but, er, even if there is an Aslan, sign me up for free will and accuracy and empathy and all that stuff, not scaring people, not hitting them with swords (just the flat, they're only children), and not getting people fired for telling the truth. Attractive is not necessarily good.
