Growing up

(Not me. Characters. I'm still in college. At least for ten minutes to talk to a teacher today.)

I was reading a film summary and it's another one of those where a guy is getting married and his best guy friend drags him off into Adventure and Excitement and really wild things. The Peter Pan thing. Guys can be guys and run around playing and blowing things up, but then girls turn up and try and make them be all responsible and grown up. It's why I'm not especially excited at the slashiness of certain pairings: sure, they're about two guys, and one really doesn't want the other to get married, but it's not as queer as it looks. (And now I have to get up and do the college day. And I don't want to. I don't want to go do essays, or plan essays, or think about essays. I have been doing this basically my whole life and I'm really really really bored. Also, whenever I think about the exam on Friday, I have to remember how to breathe. My exam revision could be going better, if I could work better around that. So I'm bored and panicky. Lovely.)

(What I want for christmas: A reason to get up in the morning. Just in general. Anything that makes awake more interesting than asleep or staring at the ceiling. Bored!)

Today I went to the council office and got a stamp on a piece of paper that should unjam my student funding. I have to write the envelope and remember to post it. Er, this probably means I'll send it friday, or sunday at the latest. :eyeroll:
To get to the council offices you need a car, or to cross four lanes of traffic with lousy pavement. It's behind Tesco. Is not good.
But my employee has a car, so that worked out.

Then I (just) caught a bus and went to college.
There was a traffic detour because Wellington Road is closed, and that made the bus go past my old house I lived in while in high school, which feels weird somehow since I haven't had occasion to go in that direction... pretty much since then. The tree is gone and also the fence. I'm glad I don't live there any more.
The bus was very full and smelled kind of funny.
I try not to notice bus smell but it was a distinctive example of the genre.

College was easy, I sit in the library for an hour, scan some pages of Maus, make an essay plan.
My notes are longer than the essay can be but the teacher was happy enough with the plan and says now I just have to edit and focus. I am down to like nine pages to write about and we need to focus on just the one. I'm sure I'll be able to do that aaaaaany time now.
Also I decided to panic early this time and ask for extra time, and he says okays, he'll figure out how to tell the computer I get extra time now.

I has exam on Friday. Do not want. Must go back to study for it some more. Have all day tomorrow to re-read my notes and try and have a coherent opinion.

Do not expect to do well this semester. :-p

Caught the bus home. The bus got as far as Cowper Road and stopped between the dentist and the car place and said that was as close to town as they were getting. Is an interesting definition of town. I mean, we're the width of a car park away from the high street, which was clearly what they meant, but apparently being one street away in Dereham is far enough to be not in town yet.
I went to the supermarket from there, is easy, they have a back door in the car park and a alley down the side. I walked out the front door and past the usual bus stop. I don't know what the X1 bus is doing tonight, but there were people waiting for it, so hopefully it is doing the same usual stops.
I also checked when the last bus to Norwich is, and I think it said half past ten, but I can't remember if it was just before or just after. I can remember the last bus out of Norwich cause that's the way around I go, but tonight the science fiction group is having the christmas meal here due to presence of Thai food with a big vegetarian selection. Which clearly makes it the perfectly perfect day for the roads to go all detour.

Probably everyone will find their way there okays.
And I do like the eatings there.

Okay, time to have a rest before the big eating evening.

Got a letter saying they're replacing my Income Support with ESA and will phone me to ask me questions some time in the next two weeks. No, wait, two weeks from the 09/12, that means somewhere between here and the 23rd. Well clearly that's going to go real well, given the amount of time I plan to be available in business hours between here and there. Also, I hate answering the phone. Hate hate hate it. I'd rather hide under a blanket a lot. Also also, ESA assessment. I have heard about this. Oh very dear.

... I was going to write something else but my brain has blue screened.

I would go back to bed but the screaming small child from across the hall is apparently playing in the hall again. No, wait, that only keeps me awake, my blanket will be just as soft. Blanket time it is then...

Went to the thai place and ate lots of food with the NSFG for the xmas meal.
I think that worked.
Even though the transport is a bit odd and there was worry and someone went back and forth to the bus stops to find people who turned up on their own. It worked out eventually. Everyone was grinning and going.
I like it much better than last year's meal because this year I had foods and I liked them.

The thai place has 130 vegetarian options.
... and I keep ordering the same one.
... I like it.

So that was a long day but :-)
