Episodes as RPG
Jul. 19th, 2013 11:18 amIf every episode of a TV series is an RPG adventure, how many Character Points / XP do you reckon characters would earn?
And is figuring that out a good way to see if you’ve used your characters right?
I saw someone meta about those characters who suddenly demonstrate a skill nothing in their background hints at. I usually write up a character sheet for my characters just so I can see how many CP they've used in how many areas already, and how much it would cost to give them said random thing. Obviously they improve through play, but skills acquired through XP need even more justification for how you got x out of y experience.

I also like making GURPS character sheets for me. Recently mine turned into plus numbers of character points, thanks to my many hours of studying... and my typing skills. So, still about 100 points short of being an Adventurer, and 25 short of being a regular person...
Knowing the character point level for your main characters and campaign can be handy. Especially if you don't want to accidentally a Mary Sue. Like, if you've already got an Iron Man, you're either playing a very asymmetric group, or you've got a ton of points to spend before someone gets implausible for the setting. If instead you have Torchwood, there's only the one guy with the ridiculously high points total, and everyone else is just kind of muddling along at your average office worker level. Which explains the death rate, really. But if they do manage to survive an encounter they probably level up fast. (Not that GURPS has levels, but you know what I mean.)
