Plot of this is that there's a clan where all their blokes died, and there's only one son. So when he gets told to go lead a war, all the women go with to protect him. Only he's only just turned 18 that day, and is kind of an idiot, so the women run the war and he just mucks things up and gets rescued. Also there's a whole thing where his dad is dead, only then he isn't, only then he is again. And it's a war so there's big battles and sieges and a lot of other people die messily and get upset at watching their friends die messily. It's made of mostly fight scenes.

I thought I'd like it more than I did, but I didn't quite like the style of the fight scenes. Lots of wires and fighting styles that didn't quite work for me.

But, lots of women with lots of different styles of fighting, all sorts of weapons, needles and bows and huge great hammers and all sorts. Some of those I liked better than the combined effect. And big battles with coordinated manuevers with fancy names like the snake or the fairy scatters flowers. Also, everyone has very shiny armour and cloaks with flower embroidery. Twiddly clunky kind of plastic armour, but still, shiny.

I'd like to like it more than I did, basically. There were so many women and so many battles that, while it did have a story, I had trouble feeling drawn into it, so basically it was just pretty women having fights.

So if that's all you're looking for from a movie, may as well try this one.

But I think I'd rather zoom in on fewer characters and have less messing around on wires.

Better plan

I have a horrible feeling, like I maybe somehow didn't notice when everything went away and now there is only woe and the end of all things. So, you know, not awesome.

Also, it is my birthday next week.

... I maintain this is entirely coincidental and the thing where I've felt entirely terrible just before my birthday every year since 29 has nothing to do with anything. Obviously.

I need a plan to celebrate.

At the moment I have all the MCU DVDs and a freezer stocked with soya ice cream. A good plan as far as it goes, but possibly quite a lot like all the days that are not my birthday.

Last year I went to a dance lesson and had vegan pizza. Dancing is fun, but Friday night dancing that is not at a convention disco seems less likely to be fun. I checked the con calendar but there doesn't seem to be the dancing kind of cons happening.

Anyone want to meet in Norwich for a birthday party? Friday 23rd August, me turning 36, whole city full of Stuff that might include vegan food if I can find a new restaurant. I don't know.

So then I spend the day with Tony Stark instead. No problem.
