Someone new to Big Finish asked me to recommend some 6 and 8 stories for them.
... they asked a couple weeks ago, and I have not answered, because my brain jams. Hundreds of stories! Many best. Or nearly best. Or really quite good, but you have to have listened many already.
Like, anything to do with Charley Pollard kind of only makes sense after listening all previous Charley Pollard. She's the companion where they remember they can do actual time travel, and many weirder things. So, even though they are first, they are not necessarily best to start. And the earliest stories aren't best anyway, cause they were still figuring out what they were doing.
So I been listening and I reckon 8 and Lucie is an excellent place to start. Blood of the Daleks. Meant as a beginning place, new companion, lots of excellent good stories.
... then Horror of Glam Rock, which... probably works better for people with much of an idea of Glam Rock to be satirising, but after that it gets good, and Phobos is one of my best favourites because of the ending.
Or, if you're new to Big Finish but not 8, probably Company of Friends? It's like a sampler, with companions from other media lines, books and comics. And Mary Shelley. And then after that there's more with Mary Shelley, which were quite good, and there's not many of them so they're not, like, daunting, like the whole of Big Finish at once looks.
But then again if I go on my Library Thing and look for the ones I gave the most stars I get a completely different set. But I'm stingy with stars. 3 means I enjoyed it plenty, 5 happens when I'm squeeful only.
I haven't finished tags for my audios. They're on http://www.librarything.com/catalog/beccaelizabeth all tagged Big Finish, but the Doctor and Companion tags are a bit incomplete. Still, I think other people can select the tag and sort it by star rating too. So there's good ones there.
I'm kind of stuck what to recommend for 6 though. I mean, definitely cannot start with Charley stories. Ish might be a specialist sort of thing. And I haven't listened it for ages. Which is true of most of the stories from the beginnings. I'm behind on my subscription for new stories, I've not been relistening lately.
There's Jubilee of course. Jubilee is good. But it's also very its own thing.
And I remember the Maltese Penguin was fun, but, well, again, not exactly the usual.
I don't know, I might end up relistening to a bunch of 6.
Any suggestions?

which is cool.
If I do relisten my audio collection then that's me sorted for entertainment for a few months, even without renewing my subscription...
