feminism grumping

So there's a popular movie series where a character used to be titled 'Princess' but now they're apparently addressed as 'General'
... okay, my attempt at spoiler avoidance is transparent, there's probably only the one movie...
but

It's low level pissing me off because it's a demotion being promoted as feminist, when actually it involves devaluing feminine titles and feminine coded work.

I see grumbling, in a jokey kind of way, about 'still' having to put Spoiler Warning on posts about Star Wars : The Force Awakens.

I know there's like a couple dozen showings a day. I know it seems like people should have had plenty of opportunities to go see it.

But do you know how many subtitled showings there are in Norwich this week?

Two.

Not two a day, just two.

Now me, I can accept that I'll drop some of the dialogue and just go watch it anyway. One reason I pretty much only watch action movies at the cinema, it has to not matter that I won't get all the words.

But people who have more of a need?

Not so many chances to have watched.




This post brought to you by the utter frustration of knowing there's a subtitled viewing in the relatively early evening somewhere I could more or less get to and possibly even catch a bus back, but the person I go with has been ill since the movie came out.
