Torchwood dream
May. 6th, 2018 11:58 pmI think I slept more than twelve hours today, and now finally feel relaxed and rested
which is nice.
Dreamt original team Torchwood, Owen and Jack and Ianto and Lisa in a wheelchair looking human, plus Tosh a little and probably Gwen was around somewhere. We were all in a gigantic cavern, with the Hub equipment set up in the middle, and off to one side was a cave entrance that led... Outside.
It was very red dirt out there. Pretty sure Outside wasn't somewhere you could get by walking around on Earth.
We had a whole experimental plant section set up, in the cave but in rows of planters full of red dirt. Only Jack went in and out, everyone else stayed the Earth side of some dividing line Jack had decided on. But there was water in our cave, and nice breatheable air, and it all felt... like spring ought to if you don't have allergies. Beginnings.
Of course much of the action of the dream was Jack offering to employ me and me saying the DWP might have Opinions on my disability benefits forever if he did that, even if said employment was just 'stay in the cave while we do research'. So Jack phoned up the DWP to ask some hypotheticals and possibly make me a new identity... *sigh*. (Otherwise Torchwood would have to pay me for the rest of my life. Or, on Jack's example, potentially forever...)
Then there was a bit where a girl from the future turned up like a backwards ghost to make sure I slept with her father. She disappeared when Ianto agreed to spend some time with me, which took some doing because Lisa, even though Lisa didn't mind. But just to be sure we included all the potentials...
Very relaxing dream.
So I woke up and I was thinking:
Jack was asleep for like two thousand years. If Dream is a place then Jack would have substantial real estate in it. And unusually stable, with about two millennia of elaboration.
... woah, the Dream of the Face of Boe...
Dream isn't usually a place in Doctor Who, unless you want to read The Nightmare Man that way. And then it's a place with its own predators, which... is kind of the only way we hear about place in DW anyway.
But, a big stable dream with doors to other worlds in, getting so stable that Team Torchwood could hang out there... or that Jack could have a whole life with them in there, when they're gone in the waking world.
Usually as a story the moral is it does not do to dwell in dreams and forget to live.
But it's a bit nice to have the possibilities...
