I slept like 12 hours and feel steamrollered ugh.

I dreamt I inherited a house, ordinary terrace house with a garden, but it turned out to be the centre of a weird religion where they made deals with tiny dandelion seed spirits that went in their ears and then they could do air magic like flying by spinning.

Also the teenagers just went in and out of the house and played on my computers even when I told them not to and got in fights when I tried to throw them out Read more... )

These were not relaxing dreams.

Neither were they helpfully plotty.

I mean dandelion spirits doing magic was whimsical and pretty, but then there was trying not to fly into electric pylons and the whole get out of my house situation, so that... that was tiring.

I would quite like to go to sleep now. But I think I need liquid and breakfast more. Maybe in a minute.

I think there's a crunch between definitions of forgiveness.
Like, some people think 'forgive' means 'that was okay'
but others mean 'that was not okay, but I believe you will do better now'.

Pretty big difference.

I feel like if something needs forgiving then by definition it was not okay? But I feel like some people keep pushing for the version where you say it wasn't that big of a deal, it was okay after all.
Which is actually counterproductive to the second meaning, because how can people do better if they think we've all agreed it was okay?

It's like redemption arcs and the whole sin repentance issue, some people are arguing the characters Did No Wrong, and others are saying they now know what they did and wouldn't do it again, and the same words keep being used.

And then there's people who don't believe in redemption or forgiveness, who say that some things cannot be forgiven, forgotten, or moved on from, they're just damned now.

That's no bloody use, what point is there doing better if there's hell anyway?

Actually I know some characters who are pretty damn sure there's hell for them personally anyway, but they keep trying to do better by the world because they understand suffering and they don't want to cause it any more.

... those are usually my favourites. I mean, that's the least selfish version. They're not doing it to get into heaven or because any outside reviewer would give them a chance, they just... don't want to do bad now.

But in terms of encouraging behaviour we want to see in the world, forgiveness is essential
but it has to be the right version.

Has to be a commitment to do better.

Or it's just setting up hurt again later.

Today's big achievement is Actually Eat A Banana
because I stopped eating bananas after an unfortunate but probably not banana related incident of accidental wall redecoration,
which makes it difficult to eat a banana,
because memory
but today I ate a banana in a bread roll and it indeed tastes like a banana and is a food item.

win.
