I rewatched Iron Man
the original.

I can no longer laugh when Tony goes splat, I'm just like ow ow ow
and may possibly be too anxious for superhero movies as a genre
or possibly just the ones involving Tony.

... okay, I'm going to watch the next one when I've checked the internet
but
he is totally too real for me to just roll with the story, I keep wanting to wrap him up and keep him warm, this is... less fun than fight scenes were planning to be.

I just have to remind myself he's a tank with a really rich franchise riding on him.
And also I know how the story goes.

... *sigh*


It's also fun though?
But different.
I have spent way too much time with this guy now, the beginning just seems... weird.



Also makes me want to go yell at Howard.

That feeling never really wears off.

Iron Man 2

Watched quick, but several thoughts on Iron Man 2: ( Read more... )

I liked the movie, even though there were a bunch of bits I don't like.

And I want to dig in to the characters after and between these films.

As it should be.

I know the rule in newspapers is never read the comments
but
never read the comments.

I read something in the Guardian about disability, the inaccessible assessment centres again, 2 in 5 mentioned, big mess, very bad, plus the thing where you have to use the phone no matter how deaf or non verbal you are...

... and the comments alternated between disabled people saying their own stories, and people going 'if this is true, bad, but that's a big if'.

How many people have to tell a thing before any one of them would be believed?

Do the commenters on the Guardian website feel like the Guardian is in the habit of making stuff up?

The whole thing makes me feel ill enough as it is, seeing glimpses into what people think about it, feeling like it's probably most people even if it's none the people I've met, that's just... stressful.

Places for disabled people need to be useful to disabled people. Ones where you have to talk the door open or levitate up steps are none good.

... now I want to write a fantasy story on vaguely this theme. Wizard will grant you a bowl of magic food that never empties... if you keep visiting his tower...

Thor

I rewatched Thor.
Thor was such a jerk to start with. And then he's like 'oh hey, actual real people actually really die', and did a self sacrifice, and was much less jerk.
... they did not move the formula on much on that front.

Loki is obviously not at his shining best. But I remain mostly annoyed at Odin's parenting. How do you raise an adopted kid to hate and fear his birth parents that much?

I know the Odinsleep put off some crucially timed conversations, but Frigga was right there, she could also have said some things? Except iirc she did, in the deleted scenes. So once again story suffers because women get edited out.

Having watched Ragnarok makes all the glory and gold look real different.

And the warriors three backing Thor when he is, in fact, still a jerk, does not make them look good.

Loki wasn't wrong in perception of problem, just, you know, epic spiral of wrong in attempted solutions.

SHIELD are creepy. Like, there's supposed to be limits to power, but no, they steal all the things. And people.

Loki was such a baby small comparatively. And yet, murder and attempted genocide, like he thinks his father would want. Kind of a problem.

*sigh*

Okay, not my favourite movie, but pretty shiny.
