I like 3.
But I liked it much, much better when I just got out the cinema the first time.

So there's a lot I don't feel works, and a lot of cringey bits I turn the sound off for, and sexism and ablism and probably racism... why is the president white in the MCU?

But

There's Tony suffering so pretty and kicking arse despite panic attacks
and I'm always going to love him doing that.

It's just a real flawed setup to happen in.

Also? The after credits bit? I hate that. Makes the wrong things funny and implausibly so.

But I love hot mess Tony Stark, sending the suit to date night because of epic fail to cope, Pepper protecting herself, Tony's instinct to throw the suit on her in an explosion, Pepper saving him right back, all that good stuff.

So on balance, I think of the movie as one I like.

<3 Tony Stark.

Fewer thoughts on this.

Loki is still such fun. Not having fun, given the givens, but very fun to watch. He fights like his mum, with the spinny stabby illusions. And he plays with illusion, like it's all a game. That bit walking the corridor, changing Thor into Sif, I know it's a good way to set up his power for later, but it's just Loki being tricksy because he has time to. Fun. ... stabby fun.

Being in on the trick makes it difficult to have Big Feelings when it otherwise seems appropriate.
... also Ragnarok. That continues to change the angle on what came before...

Jane and Darcy and Sif and Frigga together add up to a whole range of roles for women and make it a much better story. ... until the fridging. ... always with the stupid move, these stories.

I am not a fan of Odin. You can completely see how that family end up as they are, and while it doesn't excuse Loki one bit, I am not a fan of his father or his grandfather.

The movie has one habit, or the Asgardians do, that seems ugly and should be questioned: referring to others as Creatures. All the fighting is against creatures. Not people. And with the language choices and the choices of who talks at all, we don't get full access to the other points of view. Creatures be silent or noisy but not talky. Dark elves talk a language that makes it difficult to be emotionally attached. And the explanation for their actions is not their own.

... we're back to the Ragnarok lens makes a difference.

The Asgardians can talk to everyone but we don't see them trying it. "I accept your surrender" does not entirely count. The listening part being absent.

But

Lots of whoosh boom action, many fighting, Heimdall being badass, all the fun with the flying machines, and then the playing with portals at the end, plenty of spectacle to go around

many deeds of daring and courage

and a whole lot of saving the universe.

Plenty good stuff.

And that final after credits kiss :-D

So I'm glad the movies kept going and asked and answered different questions
but there's much to watch in this one

and Loki's trick was very good indeed.

I dreamed I had to try being independent
so I had to rollerskate to Sainsburys
down the A47
and the laybys were all only wide enough to get your rollerskate wheels into
while the traffic went whoosh on by.

... sometimes this seems to accurately translate the level of challenge going Outside represents.

... and I cannot rollerskate.
